how do I fix a broken antenna on my 4runner?

my 1999 4runner's antenna makes a loud grinding sound and does not go down. what part is broken? can I fix it? where can I buy cheap parts? if I can't fix it, what is the best place to get it fixed (besides toyota)?

you can't fix it. you could get a great antenna from Car Quest Autoparts. My dad's a mechanic and buys almost all his parts from there.

My 1998 4runner stereo had two antenna leads, what is the small one for?

I recently removed the OEM stereo out of my 4runner for an aftermarket stereo. The original stereo had 2 antenna leads plugged in, a regular one and a smaller antenna lead. where does that lead go? or what does that lead do? I am not getting all my stations so i hope this is the problem, not the stereo or the antenna itself.
It's a power antenna.

Your vehicle has FM diversity antennas which means that it actually has 2 antennas and the stock head unit simply switches between them as you drive to pick the one with the strongest/cleanest signal. The lead you plugged into your aftermarket head unit was the main antenna and the other one is the auxiliary one. Since your new head unit doesn't support diversity reception just take the extra lead and tuck it back out of the way and don't worry about it.

EuroStyle (13" inch) ANTENNA - 2010 thru 2012 Toyota 4Runner
JVMAX, INC Antennas

fits 2010 thru 2012 Toyota 4Runner
How is the Reception--Most people wonder about losing reception with this antenna. 99.9% of the time reception stays the same OR improves. Don't be fooled by even shorter replacement antennas, they may look nice but it has been our experience that anything shorter than 13 inches has little or no reception.
Is it worth it--This compact high quality black matte finish rubber antenna cleans up the appearance of the FRONT or REAR of your car and is an extremely durable upgrade from any stock antenna. A great improvement for little money and effort!
BRAND NEW IN PACKAGE!! Replace your ugly factory (31 inch) metal shaft antenna with this stylish yet functional LOW PROFILE (13 inch) flexible rubber antenna that will not hit the GARAGE DOOR anymore!!! If you are unsure that it fits, try unscrewing the existing antenna mast off. If it twists right off, then this antenna WILL FIT since it COMES WITH VEHICLE SPECIFIC ADAPTERS (no two antennas are the same fit).
How to put it on--Installation is very simple. This is a PLUG-N-PLAY antenna, which means it screws onto your existing antenna mount (a direct bolt-on part, no wiring involved) and takes a minute to do. And the way your car looks after this EuroStyle Antenna is installed is incredible!

How do you disconnect the motor to the power antenna of a "00 4runner?

My power antenna just went out, and I want to disconnect the motor so it doesn't grind when trying to extend or retract itself. It's loud and annoying. I'm fine with the antenna extended all of the time. Please send me a note or something if you know how to make the motor stop running.

There is an electrical plug at the base of the antenna. On your car it is accessible behind the inner fender well panel behind and above the right front wheel.

Where can I located the exact fuse for the power antenna on my 2002 toyota 4runner?

I have already looked at the cover of the box, and it doesnt specify which one belongs to the power antenna.

there should be a fuse panel inside the glove compartment or on the underside of the dash board near the steering column. Inside the cover that is on that panel, is a diagram that has the listing of all of the fuses in your fuse box. if it isn't there any more, you can always find out what fuse it is by contacting your local dealer.

2000 4Runner antenna question...?

I have searched several Toyota forums, but have yet to find the answer that I am looking for. Maybe one of you can help me here.
I have a 2000 4Runner, and the power antenna has stopped working. The motor still runs, but it doesn't move up or down. It has gotten jammed in one spot, about half way up. I have seen several people say that they bought just the mast and fixed their problem. MY question is, how do I know if I need just the mast or the whole antenna??

The good news is that if you hear the motor running it is probably OK. The bad news is that the antenna probably no longer works because the toothed rod that runs the antenna up and down has broken and the motor will need to be removed and disassembled to get the broken piece out before a new mast can be installed.

I have been eyeballing the CB radio market as a good way to get into a trail-friendly communications device without getting my HAM license yet. I also decided that to be worth it, I would want to install a radio with the NOAA weather monitoring stations. I was thinking...
