Amplifier Antenna HDTV

where would I connect a TV antenna amplifier ?

I recently bought a television antenna amplifier. I do have a hdtv converter box, where do I install the amplifier? before the convert or box or after.also
can I run two TVS off one converter or box?

Ideally, the only good place to install an antenna amplifier is at the antenna itself. If you're talking about an indoor antenna, it goes between the antenna and your digital converter (if that's what you have). Generally, amplifiers are ineffective with indoor antennas unless they are an integral part of the antenna design. But you can try it.

On a digital converter, you could connect one TV via the coaxial output jack and another via the A-V jacks. You could also try connecting the coaxial output jack to a 2-port splitter and then running coaxial cable to the antenna connectors of two TVs.

The downside of operating two TVs from one digital converter is that both sets will only get the same channel--whichever digital channel you've selected with the digital converter's remote. Your TV is left on the same channel full time (analog 3 or 4, depending on the output of your converter).

Also, be advised that your digital converter is not an "HDTV converter box." The output of the converter is analog SD only. You need an HDTV to get HD.

Any difference between the newer rooftop TV antennas labeld for HDTV and the one's we've been using for years?

I have an old rooftop TV antenna that's working fine but rusting out. I want to replace it to receive off-the-air HDTV. Should I be concerned if the product label doesn't say it's specifically for HDTV? Aren't the HD digital channel frequencies still in the UHF and VHF bands so that any antenna for UHF/VHF channels will still produce good results? Is there really anything special about HDTV antennas? A similar question could be applied to antenna amplifiers; should I look for one specifically for HDTV or will any UHF/VHF amplifier work?

Yes there is !! The HD antenna comes in a nicer cardboard box and it says " HD ready in big colourfull letters .
A few years ago we used to get antennas that said they were " colour antennas " as well !!!
Cheers Pete

how is your HDTV ANTENNA working?

I gotta pick up converter today...no sense of urgency:) Radio shack guy says "we have this antenna and that antenna on order but we have this antenna in stock for 39.95 it has pre amplifier....."
and I am thinking..."I don't wanna spend 40 bucks on antenna"
This thing is gonna be all about ANTENNAS?
what are you using for antenna?
If cheap indoor does not work I will consider YOU TUBE coathanger antenna before spending 40+ bucks

My old rabbit ears worked pretty good here in Denver. Been using it since last October. But you still need the converter (with the old rabbit ears). Now there are special antennas which supposed to be a lot better but I don't need that myself so far.

Will I see an improvement by adding 2nd amplifier?

I live in a rural area, and I have an hdtv antenna to get OTA broadcasts.
I bought an antenna amplifier (pn# 15-1170) (http://www.radioshack.com/product/index. jsp?productId=2103913) and it worked great, but now I am wondering if adding a second amp. will improve reception. The manual says you can "remove the DC block from the second amp. and install it" but I don't know if it will help significantly enough to make it $45 spent.

Nope...one amp will boost the signal, but a 2nd amp cannot improve the Signal to NOISE ratio, which is what the FIRST amp's job is...to Boost-ify the Signal while keeping the NOISE at a minimum.

What you need is a better antenna, mounted HIGHER up to get a direct-line of sight lock on the transmitter. That's why people out in the Boonies use a 40 Foot Tower.

How many people bought a HDTV to cancel cable and recieve free HDTV with a good antenna?

I bought a vizio 42 inch LCD 1080p for 600 bucks and dumped my cable company and spent 200 dollars on a outdoor antenna, cables, pre amplifier, mount and did some labour and now I get 25 digital channels with 20 of them in hd either 720p/1080i and I live in a good location around toronto canada and 60 miles from buffalo and recieve channels from both cities reliably, how many of you done the same? and what is you antenna set up?

I haven't done this, though I'd like to.

Unfortunately, I live in a condo and cannot mount a rooftop antenna. Plus even if I did, I'd still probably only get 10 or 12 good channels.
