Antenna Boosters

I've always seen them on carts in the mall, and I am inclined, because they are not sold at the big retail outlets, to believe that they don't work. Anyone ever use one?

From my experience NO. If your talking about the stickers that you place on the back of your phone or battery. I tried a few different ones and none worked for me. They are only a few dollars so if its your last resort pick one up and try it out.

How much do I need to pay to get a good one. I get reception everywhere but my house. I really don't want to pay 300 for a fuckingg repeater.

I am looking at getting one the boosters that go inside the case with the battery, will they really improve my signal?

Save your money. The signal strength you gain with these little foil stickers is very minute.

TEST I - Cell Phone Antenna Booster in low signal indoor areas:

CONTROL ENVIRONMENT - Various indoor concrete buildings with no windows within 35 feet of the cellular phone unit. Criteria for these experimental locations include low or null signal without the cell phone antenna booster installed. Tests conducted for indoor functionality of the cell phone antenna booster spanned over a period of time of no less than a couple of months. The rationale for the time frame is because cellular sites of various service providers may be overloaded at different times of the day and different days of the week. The few months time frame also rules out the possibility of a cell site being down or under maintenance.

RESULTS - To our surprise, we found that the cell phone antenna booster helped most of the phones gain roughly one bar of signal strength. In certain cases where the concrete area was underground, the antenna did not noticeably increase the cellular phone's signal. In metropolitan areas such as Downtown Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York, the cell phone antenna booster not only increased the signal strength, but actually helped older analog phones reduce static to the point where the testers say they can carry on a conversation without having to repeat themselves to the other party. They reported that this was not possible before the cell phone antenna booster was installed. Consistency is the key factor in TEST I. There were times when certain cell sites were down, and lack of signal affected everyone with the same cellular carrier, regardless if they had the cell phone antenna booster installed or not.

CONCLUSION - The manufacturers of the cell phone antenna booster claim that their product will help increase cell phone signal in tunnels and indoor areas. We find that to be true, although saying that "it is like adding a four foot antenna" may be a stretch. We also found that analog cellular phones also had a significant reduction in static (static and cross-talk is not a factor for digital wireless phones). To that, we can also validate their claim.

I have a t mobile g1 and I have no huge problem with signal... There are just one or two places I don't get a 3g signal. I've seen on eBay little chips that stick on under the battery that claim to boost signal... For £1 it seems worth a go but wondered if anyone has one and if they do the trick? Thanks in advance!

if it makes you believe that it works better.. .then I have a piece if paper I can sell you for a pound as well..

But the answer is NO.

Hold the phone by you finger tips,
so you hand does not mask the aerial in the back of the case,
and it will work better..

Put your hand all over it, and that blocks much of the signal...
The bit of paper in the phone makes no difference whatsoever..
but as you can't prove them wrong/you may believe it... and they have your money !

Similar story goes for all the mobile radiation shields...
they actually make things worse !
..no radiation.. no signal...no working phone.
So anything that stops the signal (rather like a hand) makes the phone work harder.. and the battery flatten faster ;)
