What kind of antenna is on my 2008 Sentra?
Ears of Science

I want to purchase a shorter, less hideous roof antenna for the Sentra and don't know what model/size it is.

Is there a model for the antenna part (the antenna part that comes off when you unscrew it). Or the base--is there some specification for the base where you screw in the new antenna?

I went on some sites and saw classifications such as "A series, G series and B series"

Please help!! Thank you thank you!

That roof antenna is ampflied and you may find many shorter masts that will thread onto the female 4mm threaded hole. The basee is held to the roof with a 24mm nut from inside and the C pillar trims and head liner has to be dropped. Satilite antennia also uses the base on models equipt. Really antenna is not all that bad. Old style antenna used to be 2 foot long.

there's sites that teaches how to make good uhf antennas, but how important is vhf for hdtv?

2)
is there a site for good diy for vhf?

3)
I believe I've read (not sure) that uhf dhtv channels will eventually move to vhf? Can someone confirm this, and is there a source?

Thanks.

After analog gets cut off, some channels will likely move back to their analog allocations, including VHF, mostly the 7-13 range.

Some UHF antenna designs will work enough or VHF.

For a good DIY antenna look for a "Gray Hoverman DIY"

Where can i find a "fox racing" antenna topper/ball at? i ve been to several sites and no one has any!?

Your question is not related to Formula One.

what web site can i find an antenna design for ham radio with its dimension?

i have vhf radio and as amature id like to have both directional and omni antenna.since they are very costly.id like to do it by myself. only simple but powerful ant....... thanks

As a starter, find the American Radio Relay League. It is the core organization for amateurs in the U.S. and have many technical publications.

Does the frequency range on an antenna matter for transmit?

I am a radio technician in the military currently deployed. We are having a debate about weither or not the Frequency range of the antenna actually matters. Example. I know if you have an antenna that is labeled 150MHz - 175MHz then that means your best receive will be in that range. But we have been debating and having a hard time finding it with all of our blocked internet sites on wiether or not it matters for the TX.

Please help and please leave some reference if you can.

Interesting thread.

I agree it does matter the length should be optimized to
the wavelength, (if you deal with one particular frequency and know what it is) for the most efficient transfer of transmitted, radiated, or received energy, this is best served at the fundamental frequency, but particularly for reception, you can use harmonic 1/2 wave. 1/4 wave etc, etc.

The thing is, variations will work, reasonably well, like coiled antennas, and work along a broad range of frequencies,
but are not optimal for most.

To summarise,
Matched antenna length to transmitted wavelength is
optimal, anything else although it could work reasonably
well, is actually a compromise. Having said that, and to use an example, the difference in wavelength between say 145mhz, and 147mhz, is negliable, and in practical terms could be ignored.

Convercely the difference between 59.5mhz and
1.2gig is huge, and cannot be ignored.

You get it.

  • Operating Broadcast Stations in an Emergency - AM Operations at ...

    Trackbacks

The threat from the recent fires to the tower farm on Mount Wilson from which many of the radio and television stations serving the Los Angeles area operate highlight the need for broadcasters to have an emergency plan  in the event that some local catastrophe affects their tower site.  The fact that this fire comes near to the anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, where many broadcasters lost power, but where others where able to provide a lifeline to their communities, reminds broadcasters that emergencies can strike anywhere in the country, and broadcasters need to be ready.  The FCC's Public Notice issued this week, adopting special procedures for stations in the area affected by the fire, demonstrate that the FCC is ready to work with broadcasters to provide service in the time of a widespread disaster, relaxing many of its normal rules.  The FCC has been very good in helping stations in the event of a mass disaster - even helping broadcasters during Katrina cut through the red tape of other agencies in order to assure their continued operation.  But broadcasters need to familiarize themselves with the rules about emergency operations, and be ready to deal with a more isolated disaster that may not receive enough attention for the FCC to, on its own, relax these rules.
