Not possible. You need the dish and a working receiver.

which is better 'dish tv' or 'direct tv'? you know with the satellite dish antenna.?

I want to get either cable or satellite for my tv. I need HD high defination since I bought a 42' Panisonic plasma tv. How can I understand the terms and do I have to sign a long term contract? I live in a fringe area. I can get several channels off the air now using my old antenna but I want to get better reception. What has the better picture direct tv or dish tv?

Hi! You'll be pleased with the picture quality whether you go with Dish or DirecTV, as you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference between the two. You will definitely want to go with a receiver (the box that plugs into your TV) that is most compatible with the input options your TV has available- most likely DVI or HDMI. These two connections will provide for the highest quality picture, although component inputs provide HD signals as well.

There are advantages to cable as well, particularly the fact that you won't have to have the dish installed and your service won't be interrupted by foliage growth, weather, or other obstructions. My advice to you would be consider the current promotions offered by your local cable company as well as both Dish and DirecTV. In my personal experience (I've had Time Warner/Comcast, Dish and DirecTV), Comcast has provided the best customer service but you will hear mixed answers on that concerning all 3 providers.

Contracts are usually the norm with the two satellite providers. Comcast will usually offer a promotion period of pricing but generally don't require a contract for service.

In conclusion, just ensure that whichever service you go with, you receive an HD receiver with compatible outputs, and ideally an HD DVR (digital video recorder).

One last note, be wary of local "authorized" Dish/DirecTV dealers...they sometimes add additonal fees to terminate a contract (in the event that you do) or sign up even though the deal looks great on paper.

Can my old DTV satellite dish be used as an antenna?

I had to cancel my Direct TV satellite service (too expensive). The dish is still on my rooftop and I was wondering...I am currently just using rabbit ear antenna's for tv (analog) reception. Could the co-axial cable from the dish be hooked up to my tv to provide better reception? When I was young we used to use coat hangers for antenna's so I thought maybe you still could use makeshift antenna's for better reception.

No it will not work.
Hey coat hangers still work well and will with DTV as well.
Google "coat hanger tv antennas" you will get thousands in returns.
EDIT!!!!!!!!!!

In
US dish will not work.
Wildman, you are US?
India? Not my concern

Can I replace my DirectTV satellite with an outdoor antenna and receive free air tv?

I have Direct tv and need to turn it off to save money. I want to get an antenna and get free tv but not sure how it all works. I know my TVs don't need converter boxes. So I was wondering if I simply put an antenna where the satellite is would it be wired so I just plug the TVs in to the wall and get channels? Any other suggestions?

IF you have ATSC or DIGITAL tuning built into your TV set, CONNECT your Antenna to the AIR connector if you have 2 connectors on the back of your TV set....

IF you have ONE connector, connect it to that one.

THEN go into your menu, access the channel setup and select AIR not CABLE.

Then autoprogram it....

Once finished you should have the local TV stations.

Satellite TV is today easiest way of getting channels to our television. This is done by direct signal transmission from satellite using Dish antenna. It reduces the coast usage of cable installation, because for DirecTV telecast is not depends on cables. It gets signal directly from satellites. So we do not have care about cable breakage problem. DirectTV specials are transmitting signal without any noise, using a single dish antenna we are possible to get so many channels with low coast. It is the gift of today’s latest technology.
