Can I watch DISH programming using DirecTV dish antenna?

I used to have DISH - switched to DirecTV but dont like the programming. I had them take off the DISH antenna's but have the receiver. Can I hook up the DISH receiver to the DirecTV antenna?
Update: I dont want to watch both networks. I am OK with just watching DISH - just want to be able to reuse the antenna

Depending on the antenna you may be able to switch out the LNB and use the DirecTV Parabolic refractor but most likely it will need to be re-aimed and this kind of defeats the probable purpose of your question.

Can I use a DirecTV dish as the antenna for my DTV converter box?

I want to unsubscribe from DirecTV and I have a DTV converter box. The DirecTV dish tht I have is currently setup to get local channels. Will I have to get a new antenna or can I repurpose the DirecTV dish that I have?

Frequency. Satellite TV uses frequencies in the Gigahertz range. DTV uses much much lower frequencies. The best length for your antenna is about 1/4 the wave length. The result is that your satellite dish has a really short antenna. Your dish antenna won't help much with your DTV signals. To find the best antenna, go here

Can I use a Directv dish as an antenna for local stations?

I am ending my Directv account soon for financial reasons. Can I possibly use the dish outside as an antenna for my local stations? I can't see it being any different than using a antenna that runs up the side of the house or stands on top of the house. I hate using the old type antennas. Any info would be helpful. Thanks

No, DirecTV dishes can only pickup satellite signals. You can purchase an off-air antennae specifically designed for a small dish that is round and clips onto the dish called a Terk Antenna. It is designed for picking up off air HD signals but will pick up regular signals as well.

How do I connect an antenna for locals to my DirecTV box?

I recently moved to the Eastern Shore of Maryland and brought my Directv with me. Unfortunately I was not informed that DTV does not have access to local stations. I was told to buy an antenna - which I did - but I have no idea how to hook it up and where to hook it up. The instructions with the antenna were not helpful and neither were the "techs" at BestBuy where I bought the antenna. Can anyone give me some guidance? Thanks!

Many (but not all) Directv receivers have an antenna input jack on the back of the receiver. Probably this would be the preferred connection method and will allow you to record your locals, in addition to Directv content.

The other method would be to connect the antenna to the antenna connection port on the back of your TV. You will then have to change the TV inputs to TV mode (or whatever your particular TV calls it) to watch these channels. You will also not be able to record them, but, if your Directv box ever dies for any reason, if you connect it this way, at least you can still watch your locals.

You did not say what receiver you have, but as an example, here is the backside of an HR20.

Here it is called off air in.

If you connect to the back of the Directv box, there is some setup you have to do to have those stations show on your program guide. Post another question here or send email to me if you need help with that.

How should I hook up my HDTV indoor antenna and DirecTV box?

I want to be able to switch from over the air signals to my satellite without much of a hassle. I also have a Dolby Digital 5.1 receiver. Can I get 5.1 sound over the air with this antenna?

My directv hd boxes have an extra antenna port in the back, I connect an inside antenna to each box, and I get over the air (with dolby 5.1) channels in the same list as the sat channels.

do you have the hd dvr or the hd box?
