How should I hook up my HDTV indoor antenna and DirecTV box?

I want to be able to switch from over the air signals to my satellite without much of a hassle. I also have a Dolby Digital 5.1 receiver. Can I get 5.1 sound over the air with this antenna?

My directv hd boxes have an extra antenna port in the back, I connect an inside antenna to each box, and I get over the air (with dolby 5.1) channels in the same list as the sat channels.

do you have the hd dvr or the hd box?

Does a HDTV indoor antenna allow you to get ALL the stations that Directv offers?

I have Directv but do not subscribe to HD channels through them. If I buy an HDTV indoor antenna will I be able to get those HDTV channels that they offer?

With an antenna, you'll only be able to get your local broadcast channels (NBC, ABC, CBS, Fox, CW, PBS, Telemundo, Univision, Ion, MNT, and any local independent stations).

No ESPN, MTV, ComedyCentral, CNN, Fox News, etc.

But maybe that's enough. Free is pretty attractive right now.

Can I convert my DirecTV dish into anything else like an HDTV Antenna?

I stopped using the dish awhile ago and want to try using the dish for other purposes.

I have Diret TV and when it was installed the other satellite dish was removed to make way for Direct tv, I personally asked the technician if the dish that was being removed could it be used for enhancing the signal of another tv without using the box. In other other words, I asked him the same question as you and what he said was that the satellite works only with the box of Dish or Direct TV and can not be used to enhance a television set no matter if it is the older models or the HDTV models because the wireing that is required is only adaptable to the box for the Dish or Direct TV services. I thought of using it for the other tv I have, and he said no matter what connections, additives, cables or things I use to see the programing better, it woun't work because the sattelite plate comes equipt to receive directly from the satellites to receive the signals.
He said all that I could do with it is let my grandchildren sit one and slide down the hill like a sled. There is no snow here, but still they can play with it.
Best for you is to buy from a specialty store the proper antenna that your tv requires so as not to ruin it.

I have a Radio Shack HDTV receiver and HD antenna. Can I get HD channels while having regular Directv service?

Clarification: I have an HDTV and am looking to get HD broadcast channels through the Accurian HDTV receiver hoping to avoid paying for the Directv HD package upgrade. Is it possible to have both regular Directv and this HD receiver work together with my HDTV? Or is it hopeless and I need to just order the HDTV package? The receiver is valued at $100 and I'd like to put it to use if possible.

not sure of your question.

first of all, there are no "HD channels" off-air, just broadcast channels that have HD content if/when sent by the originating broadcaster. most network affiliate stations (abc, cbs, nbc) are required to pass network HD content during prime time. most pbs stations have an HD national feed on full time, with local originated SD at the same time.

if you are asking if your off-air ATSC receiver can extract HD content from satellite, the answer is no. your directv box has to be the HD type, with service paid, in order to feed HD content to your TV set. HD on satellite is on separate channels from the SD feed. Your satellite box will require either 5-rca component connection or HDMI to get HD to your HD ready TV set.

Will I have hd channells if I buy a directv hdtv receiver?

My tv is not hd ,I have directv service .with a standard rca box .If i buy a hdtv receiver box will I get hd channels or better pic .this receiver I want to buy says itdecodes and has an antenna and receives in all these different signals it has hdmi connections
does directv's coax from the wall deliver hd to my hd receiver and hdtv?

The amount of wrong information in response to your question is shocking.

To get high Def from Directv, you need the following:
1. A slimline antenna
2. A HD Directv receiver
3. A HD capable TV
4. You have to subscribe to their HD package, which I believe is an extra $10 per month.

Your question is confusing. Initially you say your TV is not high def, but then in "additional details" you ask "does directv's coax from the wall deliver hd to my hd receiver and hdtv"
