Where is the GPS antenna on the Garmin Edge 305?
GPS antennea

I use a thick strap around much of the unit to attach it to my arm for running. Today it lost signal for two out of ten miles and I'm wondering if maybe I can locate the strap in a different way to avoid this happening in the future. Please include a reference for your answer if you can. Thanks!

GPS receivers with this form factor usually have a patch antenna mounted on the screen side of the unit, just above the screen. So on the Edge 305, just above where it says Garmin. The owner's manual suggests orienting the unit so the face points toward the sky, which likely means the unit has a patch antenna that is mounted on the screen side of the unit.

Garmin Gps/sonar combo internal or external antenna, dual or single frequency?
Antena para GPS

I want to buy a new GPS/SONAR for my new boat. Anyone have one with an internal antenna? I would like to know if you ever lose signal.
Whats the difference between the single and double frequency? This is the model Im looking at buying, Eagle SeaCharter 642C DF iGPS but Im interested in the new lowrance hds models also. Any info would be appreciated.

Internal will be fine if the unit is mounted outside the cabin (I'm not a boater so I don't know if that is the proper term). If its mounted "indoors" then you should go with the external antenna.

Single vs dual frequency in GPS terms means whether or not you can track L1 only (i.e. single freq) or L1 and L2 (i.e. dual freq). Generally, dual frequency receivers in GPS have a specific [high-end] use (engineering or military). Its not likely to do the consumer any good. However, looking at the spec sheet for this model (http://www.eaglenav.com/en/Products/Fish finder-Chartplotters/SeaCharter-642C-DF- iGPS/), I believe the dual freq refers to the sonar, not GPS. (I have no knowledge of sonars, but I suspect this means the sonar operates at 2 frequencies for better precision)

is gps garmin etrex legend compatible with external antennas?
img 1653

I have a garmin etrex legend and i want to take some measurements by driving my car. But the gps looses the signal inside the car. So I was wondering.. Is garmin etrex legend compatible with external antennas? If so could you suggest some models compatible?

I am assuming that you have an earlier one with the gray scale screen and a serial port interface. The new ones receive signals much better.

The basic answer is no. There is no official way to attach an external antenna.

Some people have created "reradiating" antennas for them. It is an external antenna that is attached to a transmitter with an antenna that you set next to your GPS.
This link will give you a search on some of them - http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&r ls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&hs =G5Q&q=etrex+reradiating+antenna& ;btnG=Search&aq=f&oq=&aqi=
For creating tracks, visibility of the GPS is not as important.
Make sure that you have the GPS in position where there is no metal or parts of your body between it and the sky, like as far forward possible on the dash or taped to the windshield. Metal and moisture block the signal.

The big buck option is to buy an etrex with H after it. That indicates the high sensitivity receiver. I rarely get drop outs with my Vista HCx. It will even record tracks inside my house or if I sit on it in my car.

The x versions use MicroSD cards for effectively unlimited storage of tracks. It will record as many points as you can (up to a point a second) as long as the GPS is turned on. It breaks the files every 24 hours of recording.

On a Garmin GPS (C340)What is the difference b/w using a traffic antenna: GTM 10 versus the GTM 12, just $?

Also, I just bought the Streetpilot C340, It is preloaded, but I cannot download updated maps because it says I don't have Mapsource. I cannot download that because my garmin was preloaded... how do I add new maps if I decide to buy them?

Oh, and yes, the antenna question please.
Thanks

The GTM10 has to be installed in the vehicle, meaning you have to pull the radio to install to the exterior antenna. The GTM 12 does not require the installation and is much easier to use.
If you have a version prior to version 8, you may obtain the update disk from the garmin site. If you have version 8 already, there is nothing to update.

will any gps antenna work for my delphi nav200?

on ebay the specific antenna is like 20-30 but the other antennas for like the garmin are like 2.00 plus shippin. are all the antennas the same?

The antennas have to be the same in that they receive the same frequency. Most antennas will be active which means they have a small amp in them. You need to know that the voltage your GPS supplies is the right voltage for the antenna. But the bigger question is the connector. Not all antenna connectors are the same. It won't do you any good if you can't connect it to you unit.

  • APSI 100 GPS packs removable PMP, can#39;t be removed from South Korea

GPS devices have been packing full PMP functionality for quite some time now, but few have come up with the bright idea of using an actual, removable PMP for the heart of the unit -- although Apple and TomTom are now doing their best attempt at a one-two punch . Korean manufacturer APSI now made its best attempt at a fully out-of-the-box solution with its new APSI 100 unit, however, which combines the simplicity of a touchscreen PMP with the in-car convenience of some old fashioned buttons and knobs. Unfortunately, the complete specs are a bit hard to decipher, but it looks like you will get some built-in DMB mobile TV (complete with an antenna jack on the base unit), along with some nifty 3D...
