I want to know if I must purchase a box to use my TV with antenna to receive HD signals

Many people are having problems getting channels with these boxes cause their antennas aren't good enouggh.
Digital needs a better signal than analog.

This happend last Sat. Now, fooling around with it, I can get a weak picture on all channels by having the connection for the amlifier in halfway, and streching the wire across the top of TV set in just a certain way.
Works with antenna on or cable on. I've tried everything I can think of, to no avail.

Really frustrating, got great reception up to that moment last Sat.

Time to go out and get a new antenna....

The power supply or the amp has died and you cannot repair it cheaply....

I have tried 3 different antennas and only a few channels come in and they are really jumpy. I live in a major city. So its not like I'm in the middle of nowhere.

Before I got the box I used to get channel fox cbs and nbc, maybe not the best quality but very watchable. now I can't even watch those channels at all, it freezes every few seconds. Is there anything I can do?

I feel like there is a huge conspiracy forcing people to buy new tvs or get cable or satellite. And I just can't afford another monthly bill.

I also tried an antenna with gain and all that did was add interference.

Most (but not all) of the DTV channels are on UHF channels (14-69). So you need an antenna that can bring in UHF. Most "rabbit ears" perform poorly on UHF.

I'm trying to receive digital channels with a converter box and antenna. However, after I complete the setup it has no signal. So my question is, does the type of antenna you use make a difference? I have a magnavox box, and GE antenna. If you have any advice I would appreciate it!
We are surronded by other houses, but nothing really tall.

The antenna is plugged into the "ANT IN" on the conerter box.

As for the distance, I really don't know.

Well, just how far away from the TV stations are you?

And do you have giant buildings Blocking the signal?

A rooftop antenna is always better than a tabletop antenna.

Is your antenna connected to the ANT IN instead of the OUT TO TV jack on the back of your converter?

I was looking at a terk and a ge version that range from $45-$60. If anybody has any info about either brand or if they could recommend another i'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

I had the Philips MANT510 indoor antenna with a 50db amplification that picked up stations about 30 miles away.
