How do you hook up an HD off air antenna to a directv box??
oh wow i love this previous answer. As a direct tv installer we have done many hd off air antennas......best bet would be to get a powered hd antenna go to yahoo and search for locations on where to point the thing, your going to need a compass of course, install the thing in a attic, on the roof, or on the side of your home, run one single coax to either a.) a cable tv splitter or b) the off air antenna port on your reciever any more questions contact me thanks
Cheaply, easily an quickly build an HDTV antenna that outperforms amplified store bought antennas! For more great ideas see metacafe.com
It is an Olevia LT37HVS. It's native res is 720p(1366 x 768) and all the channels that I get are 480i. It has some kind of input called DTV, and it says that it is trying to scan for channels. There are two RF inputs, one that is labeled ANT which I assume is for Antennaes, and one that is labled DTV which I don't know what goes there. There is a switch on the Philips HD antenna that goes from sattelite to cable, and when I have it on cable, from my main menu on the actual TV on the TV input, I can switch between Cable and Air. That's the comparison that I am doing it with. I tried switching to the DTV input, and it says scan for channels. I looked up a site and it said that I had to have an antenna hooked up for it to work. So, I plugged in the HD antenna into both the ANT and DTV RF inputs, and scanned for channels. Both times I didn't get any channels. So, I always have the antenna set to cable, never to antenna. How do I make this work? What is the DTV input for?
Your TV has two tuners, each one has a separate input. The "ANT" input is for the older analog (NTSC) channels and the "DTV" for digital channels. To get both kinds of programing you can use separate antennas or use a splitter to use both inputs from one antenna.
It would be helpful if you posted the model number for your antenna.
In the meantime, here are two suggestions:
1. If your antenna has a amplifier, make sure it is plugged in and any power switch is turned on.
2. If #2 doesn't help, try to find/barrow any old pair of rabbet ear antennas you can find and try them on the ANT and DTV inputs. If you can get a signal with them, you have determined the problem is with the new antenna. If you don't get a signal, then your problem is either you don't have a signal (perhaps you are in a room with foil cover insulation or something like that) or the problem is on the TV side of things.
Let us know what you find.

I have a Toshiba HDTV that has one RF Input. I have cable (without a box) and an HDTV Antenna for picking up local HD stations. Right now I have to physically disconnect the cable to watch Local HD and vice versa. How can I have both connected and just switch it with the TV input selector?
You need a A/B Switch. You hook both cable and the wire from the antenna to the Switch. When you want to switch from antenna to cable, you just push the button on the A/B Switch.
You can get the A/B switch at Radio Shack.

Hello.
I am running a cable from my attic to my basement where I will connect it to a HD Tv. I am using an HD antenna. What kind of cable do I use.
Standard RG6 cable should work fine.
Make sure that it is High Quality with good shielding characteristics.
If it is running near a lot of electrical noise you may want to use Quad Shield RG6. But likely 99.7% of the time the standard will be fine.
If the run ends up taking a weaving route that makes it really long, you could order RG11. It is lower loss, but much more expensive, larger and more difficult to work with.
If it is a long run or if you wish to have service in other rooms, you may also want to install an amplifier (See last link for picture)
Caution: Make sure that you ground your antenna lead!
Even if it is in the attic and not on the roof, you still have a conductor that runs the hight of your home. Lightning will not see a couple of shingles between it and earth.
Does anyone know of a good indoor over the air HD antenna that will not loose the signal or freeze the picture especially when you get close to the antenna or walk around it? I have tried different brands and its all the same if you get near the signal is shot and the pic freezes and audio also comes and goes until the pic is restored again.
I bought the $29 one at walmart some times it freezeze up , but i also plug it in but turn the power off it works better that way
