Laptop Wireless Antenna

i have Toshiba satellite with wireless incorporated but i don't see anything to connect a wireless antenna.

The anttenna is built in to the laptop, if you want to increase the distance you can get a signal, you can get an add in card to install in to your pcmcia slot.

Can someone give me a step by step process of how to turn on the wireless antenna?

im a computer tech.

he is wrong. there is usually a swtich to turn on your wireless chip on the side of you laptop someware. and yes you do need to install it if it is not. it should be already installed tho. u need to click on the wireless icon on the bottom right were the clock is with the right side of your mouse. then click view avialable connections then select the one u want and connect. and your done.

No the antenna is built into the cover and can not be upgraded, the internal WiFi wireless 802.11 a/b/g/n card can be replced but would be expensive to replace. Upgrade your router to the new N version and it has a larger/longer range and is back ward compatible with all other versions or move the router to a more central or closer area. Install a router booster.

I have a compaq presario V6000 Laptop and the monitor broke and i opened up the case and there a re a few wires mounted to the back of the monitor and want to know if the wireless antenna for the WLAN was back there before i cut wires to remove the monitor so i can just connect it to an external monitor but still use the mouse and keyboard.

There is no guarantee that the antenna is on the monitor or the case. The only way to know is to call up the makers of your computer. Although I would consider with monitor being the best place for it, considering its the highest place on a notebook.

But as an alternative, you could just hook up another monitor through the connector on your laptop, and just have the computer show things through it, without cutting anything. I say this because cutting the wires on the monitor can open up shorts, and other things, including a house fire.

My dad joined modern society this year & switched from dial-up to broadband. The thing is, he goes to Florida for the winter. His laptop does have a wireless card, but I don't know if that means he'll be all set once he & his laptop get there. I've heard of wireless antennas??? but I don't know what they are really, or even if getting him a wireless antenna will make it more likely he'll be able to just turn his computer on & have internet access when he gets there? Or will he need to get his own broadband service once he gets to Florida? My advice to him so far was just to wait & see when he gets there, if he has internet ... he's not thrilled with the 'wait & see' idea.

I know this is probably a stupid question & for that, I apologize in advance. I really don't know what to tell him, and I need some kind of concrete advice. Thanks.
