Can you use paint on a wireless network antenna?
NASA Deep Space Communication Complex

Picture it:
A black, wireless network antenna sticking straight down out of the ceiling. It looks horrible. It would be much less noticable if it could be painted white. But will painting it affect the wireless signal?

If there's anything conductive in the paint, yes (it will affect it - you asked the question both ways). You can try it, but once you paint it, you may not be able to remove the paint. Why is it on the ceiling? You can conceal it behind furniture or cloth and it will still work - anything non-conductive doesn't exist as far as radio signals are concerned. (Just make sure that the box it's connected to still has enough air flow around it to stay cool.)

where can i find how to install a dish network antenna?
Another day at the office

I need to know how to install the antenna. I guess need some coordinates and other type of satellite information.

read the installation manual. You may have to go to their website to get the elevation and bearing settings.

Find a place where you have an unobstructed view. mount it per the directions.

Using a compass, rotate it to the bearing given.
elevate it to the elevation angle given.

hook up the dish to the box, and the box to your TV. Have the TV where you can see it from the antenna.

go into the menu and select the setup option.

start slowly moving the antenna side to side until you get the strongest signal.

slowly move the antenna up and down until you get the strongest signal.

repeat the two above steps until you get the strongest signal. It may take a couple of tries, but it can be done by yourself without any fancy equipment.

Where is the Wireless Network antenna in a Compaq Presario V6000 Laptop?
NASA Deep Space Communication Complex

I have a compaq presario V6000 Laptop and the monitor broke and i opened up the case and there a re a few wires mounted to the back of the monitor and want to know if the wireless antenna for the WLAN was back there before i cut wires to remove the monitor so i can just connect it to an external monitor but still use the mouse and keyboard.

There is no guarantee that the antenna is on the monitor or the case. The only way to know is to call up the makers of your computer. Although I would consider with monitor being the best place for it, considering its the highest place on a notebook.

But as an alternative, you could just hook up another monitor through the connector on your laptop, and just have the computer show things through it, without cutting anything. I say this because cutting the wires on the monitor can open up shorts, and other things, including a house fire.

Can I use a antenna to receive network tv and PBS in Nashville?
NASA Deep Space Communication Complex

Can I use a antenna to receive network tv and PBS in the Bellemont neighborhood in Nashville?

>Can I use a antenna to receive network tv and PBS in Nashville?

Yes, you should be able to. You will need an antenna that will pick up both UHF (ABC, MyN, CW, FOX, ION) and VHF signals (NBC, CBS, PBS)

You are close enough to the TV transmitters that many people could pick them up with an indoor antenna.

Whether you can depends on the construction of your house and it's surroundings. Indoor antennas can be very fussy about where you locate them within a building.

How do you hook up an OTA antenna with a Dish Network receiver?

I just got dish network and don't want to pay for locals. I also bought an indoor OTA antenna to pick up Hd locals. Besides connecting the coax cable is there anything else I need to configure?
Let me clarify. The dish receiver has an input for ota antenna on the back. I hooked up my ota antenna back there (via coax cable) and nada. I have no locals. HELP!

--- you will just need to select a different input for whatever you ar watching. For instance on my 50 inch I have it on HDMI while watching DirectTV and DTV for ITA networks. Depending on your TV the setting name may be different.

  • Weird amp; Wireless: What#39;s up with Antennas? (Electro-ramblings)

Think of an antenna as a catcher of electro-magnetic waves of a certain frequency. I think a good metaphor is pouring muddy water through a strainer. Most of the water goes through, but particles of a certain size get trapped. The size of the trapped particles is related to the size of the holes in the strainer in that they are always bigger. Think of an antenna working the same way - only instead of holes, it is tuned to the wavelength of the electro-magnetic wave it is trying to "capture." Now for those of you confused about "wavelength" remember that the wavelength is the distance between the start and end of one wave cycle. It is effectively the inverse of frequency. Further, we have learned...
