There is one omni directional antenna -
2.4Ghz,
15.4dBi,
VSWR -1,5:1,
Polarization is vertical,
input power 100 watts,
impedance 50 Ohms
How to calculate mast height for best possible coverage for WiFi network using this antenna?
The full lenght of wave of one antenna is the division of 300,000 (The speed of tjhe light in km) by the frequency in KgHz.
In this case, 300,000 : 2,400,000 = 0.125 m (12,5 cm)(4in 7/8)
Remember, highter is the frequency, shorter is the lenght of wave.
This Omni antenna is a sphere shaped, non-directional, and covers 360 degree. It comes with mounting kits including high quality brackets nuts ...
I am trying to figure out what is the best type of omni directional antenna for outdoor wi-fi use.
I am gonna be making a hot spot and want to know the best type of omni that will give me the best range and throughput.
I will be using a either a wireless-b or g router for the access point. I know g gives the best possible speed but does the range compare to wireless b at the longer ranges?
Please give as much knowledge as possible.
Thanks
You are way ahead of yourself. The first thing you need to do is a site survey. You need to figure out how much coverage do you want or need (WLAN cell radius). Will the cell cover users just outside or inside as well ? You need to identify holes of coverage due to mulipath, interference and any neighboring WLAN's.
Also as the operating frequency of the increases from 2.4 GHz to 5GHz there is additional path loss. This results in a smaller cell radius. While it is good that you have thought about antenna diversity there are a lot of other factors that you need to consider for optimal performance of your WLAN.

how to turn a Omni directional antenna into a Directional one?
i have a Hawking HWUG1 Wireless G USB Network Adapter with External SMA Jack and i am buying a [HAO9SIP] Outdoor Hi-Gain 9dBi Omni-Directional Wireless Antenna Kit to exstend the Range of it i wanted to know how can i turn a Omni Directional Wireless Kit in to a Directional one ? i have some ideas but some tutorials will help
If yo uare talking DIY i've heard of people using pringle tubes to direct signal, never seen or tried it though.

Looking to put an antenna in a fixed location in my attic to run multiple tvs.
Would like to pull in as many nearby channels as I can without needing to constantly adjust the antenna.
Will use digital converters on the tvs to pull in the digital signals.
Every location is different in terms of the antenna type you need. Your best bet is to go to http://www.antennaweb.org
Put your address and style of home into this web site & they will tell you exactly the type of antenna and the direction the antenna should be pointed to receive digital broadcasts in your area.
I am thinking of setting up a paid wifi hotspot business in a small town. I need a wifi antenna that can cover an area of about 20km in radius. Can anyone out there with IT knowledge tell me the type and brand of omni directional wifi antenna to use? I intend to use only a single antenna to serve the radius. If you have links to website of the product, kind give it to me.
Well you probably WONT find an Omni with that type of gain. The ability to add gain requires reflectors and that just isn't possible with omni directional antennas.
There are several 11-15db omni for outdoor use. With 30db antenna you could well exceed the legal limits for output! You also need to decide horizontal or vertical radiation pattern. Which depends on what is around you to interfere with your system.
One good source is
http://www.hyperlinktech.com/web/hg2415u _pro.php that is a 15db vertical.
Another is

You can use a good amplifier with your antenna to get better coverage for your system (just dont exceed your local output limits!!!). Height of the antenna does matter the clear path is what you are after. If your terrain is flat roof mounting will give you good coverage. You also don't want to get it too high or those nearby will be skipped as the signal will be too far over them to pickup well.
Here is a good article to start with.

We have one central antenna at 90 feet with three sector antennas which cover 120 each so three radios are used to cover the entire 360 radius. These are available up to 20db but 13-15db works well with good radios.

For example, you could use a 6dBD gain 4-bay dipole array to cover the entire public service VHF band, a dipole array or Stationmaster for UHF and there are plenty of surplus Stationmaster type antennas around for 800MHz with 10dBD gain. Combine all these with low loss using a Comet or Diamond Triplexer and your scanner will probably overload but you will have lots of gain on all scanner bands.
