Outdoor Am Antenna

We just need a place to do some research on antennas, like the kind our grandparents use to have, only better. I've tried searching on my own but most the thousands of pages want to sell me one. I want to do my research before I buy anything.

I am now receiving broadcast tv with my present outdoor antenna.Can it be used for digital tv?

Some companies will try to convince you that you need a new antenna for "improved" digital TV reception. This is not true.

The digital channels operate on the existing spectrum for which your antenna was designed. Your old antenna will still work as it always has.

The cable box is still on the outside of our house but we don't have cable. Can we mount our outdoor antenna beside it and use that coaxal cable (sp?) already there to connect the two together?
The question is...will the antenna work?

yep, they're your wires, you can do as you please with them and the antennae signal will go to any tuner that your cable previously went to

I have a portable tabletop radio with a telescopic antenna, how can I construct a simple outdoor antenna, and how does it connect to the radio

Take a piece of thin wire (22ga or 26ga from Radio Shack)....strip enough insulation off to wrap the telescopic antenna several times to HOLD the wire on it, about 5 or 6 inches will do.....

THEN find a tree or something like a ROOF and take enough wire off the <<50 foot>> or 100 Foot spool and.....

FLING IT !!

Or get somebody that can.....

You'll be getting your local radio stations in no time.....

You didn't expect Germany or Japanese radio did you?
How would you understand them anyways?

After the digital tv switch, I got a digital converter box and hooked it up to my old outdoor antennae, and all tv stations are clear except for 4 uhf channels. I was considering buying an indoor digital antenna....is there a way to use both the old outdoor antenna with an indoor antenna to improve the 4 channels that aren't clear? Or is there no way of connecting both to the TV?

The digital stations are on both VHF and UHF bands so you need a combo VHF/UHF antenna (not just one or the other). If you try to combine an indoor antenna with an outdoor antenna, it might work, but more likely the two would interfere with each other and actually give you less channels, so I'd only recommend trying it if you can return the new antenna if it doesn't do what you want it to do. To combine two antennas, just hook them to the output side of a two way antenna splitter (like this one http://www.datavis.com/Belkin-Components -2-WAY-SPLITTER-1-INPUT-2-OUTPUT.html ) and then hook the input side to the TV antenna input.
