Outdoor Fm Antenna

Antennas Answers

What is the best outdoor FM radio antenna that offers the best, proven signal gain?

The greater the number of elements, the higher the gain.

To achieve a 3dB increase, the number of elements needs to be doubled. That means its length will be approximately doubled too.

What would be the BEST outdoor or indoor antenna to pick up FM radio reception.?

Fm reception in a house..forgot to mention that....

Best is a antenna on a 100 foot tower..gets stations about 100 miles out.

But depending upon the stations and how far away, Radio Shack (National chain electronics store in most major cities) sells outside antennas as well as inside antennas

Best is a good outside antenna with a signal booster but please remember size

Sometimes a amplified indoor antenna may help you if the signal on the included antenna is not up to snuff (find that alot with home theatre stereos).. but outside for those are best

I want to use coaxial cable to make an fm stereo antenna. What size/shape? Indoor/outdoor.?

Impedence specific?

Another name for it is coaxial insulated cable. It is insulated so it won't pick up any stray signals.

What kind of cable must be used with an outdoor antenna (RG-59, RG-6, RG-6 Quad Shield )?

I'm trying to purchase an outdoor antenna and cable to Connect it to the HDTV Digital Converter Box; but I found out that there are different antennas (VHF, UHF and even FM class Antenna)

Also, different kind of cable to connect the Antenna to the TV/Digital Converter Box. These are RG-59 Coax Cable , RG-6 Coax Cable and RG-6 Coax Quad Shield Cable.

Can somebody help me with these options.

Thank you so much for your help!

For TV, you need a good quality VHF/UHF antenna. RG-6 should be good enough for most installations. The quad shield is a better choice to reduce interference, however that usually is not a problem in home installations so it's really not worth the extra money.

RG-59 is good for the cables from the wall to the TV because it's thinner and easier to hide, however you can just do the whole installation in RG-6.

Make sure you properly ground the antenna for lightning protection!

  • Onkyo TX-SR507 and outdoor FM antenna - AVForums.com

I would guess it's normal, since the original antenna supplied by Onkyo has portion 1 of the jack completely insulated. A radio antenna is just 1 wire in which an electrical current is induced by the radio waves; by using the "1" portion of your jack, you are using the RF insulation (that layer of thin wires) of the coaxial cable as an antenna ... therefore canceling the useful radio signal which you want
