Panel Antenna

I don't want to get cable. If I buy a HDTV will it work with a roof-top antenna and/or will it need a converter box?

Like you, we use a roof-top antenna and I don't want cable. We recently purchased a 42" LCD t.v. (Visio at Walmart) and for most channels we receive regular feed and hi-def (for example, Channel 8 is NBC, 8-1 is NBC hi-def).

We also now pick up the ION channel and NBC's all weather channel (8-2).

We get NBC, PBS (4 channels of hi-def channels), FOX, CW all in high def.

ABC and CBS don't come in hi-def for us. We are looking at a digital antenna to see if that will help bring those in hi-def.

Phillips makes a DVD player that connects that uses a hdmi cable, which converts regular DVDs into hi-def (not sure if it is as good as Blu Ray or HD DVD, but it only cost $50 at Walmart and it is clearer than the regular DVD player)

I am not getting my cable installed for another week and I really want watch Lost tonight. If I buy an antenna will it actually work on these types of TVs?

It depends on whether your have a tuner in the monitor. Since you referred to it as a TV, I will assume that you do (most LCD monitors do not). If so, then a regular TV antenna will be compatible using the coaxial connector (screw-in). If you don't have a tuner in the monitor (ie: there is no TV mode), then you need to get a tuner signal from, say a VCR, to the monitor. With any luck you will have composite-in ports on your monitor (yellow, white, red). You can run a cable between the source (VCR) and the monitor. If you don't have composite-in and there is no TV mode, then it gets more complicated and expensive and is probably not worth the effort if you're getting cable in a week.

I wonder if there's anyone that can provide some info or little hints on how to use the superpass panel wireless antenna, we haven't been able to get any signals with it, and at the price we paid I'd like to see better results. Any suggestions?

Which superpass, did you get the one with the internal radio or just the panel antenna? If its just the panel antenna, what wireless adapter is it connected into with what type of cable?

I have used the CPE (combined radio/antenna) units at distances of 8-10 miles so they do work. Just remember they are LINE OF SIGHT! (buildings, hills, etc will block them)

You do have to have an internet SOURCE? Like a wireless ISP. If your just trying to steal internet which can end you in jail, its abilities are limited..since most of those will be indoor routers with very limited range.

If you know where the AP is, you aim the antenna at the AP, be sure to use the correct "polarity" (horizontal or verticle) depending on what the AP is set to use. You should see signal.

I bought a new antenna but when I went to install it I could not get to the old antenna to un-install it. It seams as though I'd have to take off the front quarter panel completely to change the antenna. Help anyone?

My power antennae is broken and part of the old antennae cable is stuck in the antenna motor housing. I need to remove the panel so that I can access the antennae motor housing and either replace the motor housing or take the broken cable out of the old motor housing. The dealer wants $150 dollars to do this, but it would be so simple for me if I could just get the panel off!

ask the dealer, why will it cost this much,and ask him to so you the work involved in taking it off
