Does anybody know anything about edge diffraction on a phased array antenna?

When a wave meets the edge of an object the wave starts to wrap around the edge. This is called diffraction.

The performance of antenna arrays can be severely degraded by edge diffraction and reflections of surface waves from the edges.

Well I for one RT am not going to attack you for your answer ! the plain fact is that I could not have explained it any better and you will see by a lack of alternative answers that I am correct in saying that nobody else could explain it better either !!!

can i achieve the same gain of a parabolic dish antenna using phased antenna arrays ?

You will eventually achieve the gain of a dish by phased antenna arrays, but it's a very costly and complex way of doing it!
The high gain of a parabolic dish makes it the simplest form of directional antenna for most purposes.

Antenna Steering system using electronic way or using mechanical way?

what is the advantages and disadvantages of each system, the mechanical steering like in radars, and electronic steering like in phased antenna arrays.


The mechanical system is more efficient and costs less.

The electronic system is faster, more flexible and more reliable.
