I have a new DTV converter, new $16 indoor portable TV antenna and older 2000 analog 13" TV. Need help attaching cables to all 3...I am 60+ and dont know the terms of what porthole or cable to stick where. Converter and new antenna both have room for 2 cable hookups. TV only has the antenna- in porthole & no audiovisuals.. The old pole antenna on the TV wasnt good enough, so I bought the new $16 antenna for it. Reception isnt good in my area with DTV converter alone.
Carefully look at the back of the antenna and converter box. Everything should be labeled, but you may need a magnifying glass to see the printing.
One of the connectors on the antenna should be labeled "To TV" or something like that.
Temporarily connect the "To Tv" outlet to your TV and see what kind of analog reception you get.
If you don't get any reception, look at the back of the antenna for a switch. Try flipping it to the other position.
(The switch & extra connector on the antenna is so you could connect a video game if you wanted to.)
Play around with adjusting the antenna for best (analog) reception. It's a lot easier to adjust the antenna with the analog signal.
When your done, disconnect the antenna from your TV and connect the antenna to the "Antenna in" (or something like that) on the converter box
The other connector on the converter should be labeled "To TV" (or something like that). Use the cable that came with the converter to connect it to your TV.
Set your TV to channel 3 or 4 (whichever shows the converter's menu), then you will be ready to go through the converter's menu.
If you have further questions, be sure to include the model of the converter you have.

I wouldn't even actually need to use the TV function, only the DVD but not sure if they would frown upon having a TV on the airplane.

TV's, cell phones, and radios, and other "receivers" are not allowed to be USED on all on U.S. flights because they supposedly interfere with flight communications. There's debate on the technical reasons for this, but they are banned per the FAA.

Have no clue what I am doing????????
You didn't give much detail on the TV, so I'll start there and work towards the antenna.
On the TV you may have a 300 ohm connection (two small screws, close together) Connect a transformer/splitter to the two screws on the TV to make a coaxial connection available.
If your TV already has a coaxial (Coax) connection (a threaded bolt-like shaft with a hole in the middle) connect a coaxial cable to the TV (or to the transformer/splitter you just installed.)
If you are in an area that is transitioning to all-digital TV signals (and if your portable does not say DTV ready), your next step will be to connect the coaxial cable to the output on a DTV converter box (make sure it's portable too!)
Then connect your portable DTV converter box to the antenna, turn everything on, scan for channels with your DTV box (rtfm), tune the tv to the correct channel, (usually 3, 4, or Video1) and enjoy!
Hope this helps!

I have a approximately 10 year old portable color TV (Casio Model TV-770B crystal vision). It has about a 2 inch screen. It has a built in antenna It has connections for earphones and an external antenna but the connection for the antenna is the same size as the one for the earphones. It does not have one of those connections found on larger TV to connect a cable via one of the coaxial cables. Is there some sort of adaptor that would allow be to connect cable TV service via a coaxial cable to the portable TV external antenna connection? If so what it is called and where can I find it and roughly how much does it cost?
There really is no adaptor for your TV, but......
You can find an unused "earphone-style" of cable and adapt it to an unused RF cable (unused because you will have to cut the ends off and splice them together).
I had a portable TV and just purchased an earphone Jack to connect to an RG-59 cable.....
Then I actually FOUND a special adaptor that had an
F-connection on one end and a 7mm earphone adaptor on the other....but that was back in 1990....and in a Radio Shack store.
I suspect you may find one if they still make it.
Try Radio Shack first, or go online for an "F to 7mm" adaptor.
If you have the instruction booklet, it may actually have the specs you need for the earphone plug.....
Affect the usage of these units? Or can i still use them when the power goes out for the weather?
Yes, if that TV is Analog and not Digital it will be affected as any other TV, regardless of size. The same rules apply.
