The antenna on my radio for my Mercedes Benz c230 won't go up for some reason. It was working up until a few days ago. The radio works okay without the antenna but I would like the antenna to work again. What should I do?
Thanks!
Either the antenna mast, which is replaceable and runs about 60 bucks plus a negligible amount of labor or you need to buy an antenna motor which is not cheap. Good luck
Please visit my blogsite at: johnu78.blogspot.com In this video I show how to make a basic shortwave radio antenna. This antenna can be made for ...
I would like to build a shortwave radio antenna and would like to know how to do so cheaply.
OK, lets do the math. Convert the frequency in Megahertz to actual wave length- lets say 29 Megahertz is roughly 10 meters, or about 30 feet right?
So, because I'm lazy I'm going to tap right in the middle- that is, 15 feet to the left and 15 feet to the right.
This makes a full wavelength dipole antenna- all it takes is one 30' length of 12 gauge wire, and a wire from there to the back of your reciever.
I suggest you look online for "Ham Radio Antenna Designs" or find the old book "Shortwave Listening" from TAB books.
Good Luck
It has a nominal 3 dB gain over an isotropic source and is directional, tending to favor signals coming broadside to the wire.
A simple dipole antenna can be used for improved reception of FM broadcast signals.
A dipole is basically a length of conductor (wire) split into two portions and signal is taken off at the split.
I have a car.
I dont listen to the radio, I have it connected to my Ipod.
So I was wondering if there was a short (12"-25") cb antenna that could screw into the stock antenna mount.
Can I just take the stock radio antenna out and screw in the CB antenna?
Radio Shack use to sell a combination CB/FM antenna. Check there or EBAY.

I have a "National Panasonic" (D49) multiband radio. There are three antenna connections on the back (all 75 ohm).
AM, FM and shortwave. I connected each one to a 3 set TV splitter and now have a short piece of RG6 looking for a place to go.
1- I realize a long wire is best.
2- I wanted to use a wireless antenna set to connect to the incoming TV cable (from dish on roof) which is also connected to an FM jack in the living room (2nd floor apt) concrete walls etc.
3- Is there a wireless setup for radio?
What would I connect to the three antenna jacks on the rear of the set? They are each 75 ohms. I can connect them to a common ground. That leaves the center conductor or each.
OK! It's very simple!
You need three different antennas, each one for each one of the bands. For AM the best is a long long wire (more than 30 meters) if you have the way to put it, or a ferrite rod with the bobin that can work with a 365 to 430 pF capacitor. For FM you have many options, the simplest of all a folded dipole (300 Ohms) of 1.5 meters long and a balun (300 to 75 Ohms). For SW you can use only one antenna that covers all the bands from 160 to 10 meters, it's named discone antenna. There are many more options so ask to a HAM and maybe you can obtain better or more complete help.
I have a 75 foot tall radio antenna in my yard (former homeowner was fire chief). I want to get rid of it. In fact, its free to anyone willing to remove it.
After you became the owner of the property is a heck of a time to discover you have a 75' tall object in the yard. If you had noticed it before closing you could have made its removal a precondition for that closing. Now you are stuck with it and with the liability if it were to fall over.
Maybe you could lease space on it to a cell phone company. They are always looking for a tall place to put their antennas. Most of the time they find it tough to get neighbors to approve putting up a tower,. You have the advantage that the tower is already there so no permit for tower installation would be needed. You could include a clause in the contract that makes them liable for any damage and for final removal when they are done.
