Rca Antenna

have a dish 500 old, not used after smart card message, that i was wondering if you can use it as smart antenna i.e. by hooking it into smart antenna port on the rca dta800b1?

i have an old sega genesis that i want to hook up to a new tv. i only have the old connection. it connects to the console via an RF output which leads to what sega calls an "RF switch" that connects to the tv via a coaxial cable. the tv only has an antenna, hdmi, and rca inputs.

You need an R/F modulator, you can find this at your local radio shack or Best Buy.

It will take coax to RCA, or s-video.

i've connected everything the way it's discribed using the A/V jacks and without the A/V jacks im staying in mattawan mich.

We are using the antenna indoors but it can go outside so we will give it a try.
We haven't had a TV in 20 years so all this is very new and confusing

Are you using an indoor RCA antenna? If you are, then my guess is that your signal strength is too weak to pull in the digital channels. Analog channel picture quality will degrade as the signal strength weakens, but you generally can receive a picture. With digital channels, you will not consistently receive a picture if signal strength falls much below 30 - 40%.

Can you use an outdoor antenna? The following web site can provide you a lot of useful information: http://www.antennaweb.org Use the "Choose an Antenna" selection along with your location information to determine what channels you should expect to receive (if you live in the US). This site will also inform you of the direction you need to train your antenna for each channel, what type of antenna works best at your location, and the need for amplification on your antenna.

I already have an HDTV im just trying to hook an HD antenna to it but i cant get it to find any channels. Im doing the channel search on the tv but nothing will pop up...Since i already have an HDTV i dont have to have the converter box right to make the antenna work?

Indoor antennas, powered or not, are really hit-and-miss. I suggest you use http://www.antennaweb.org/aw/Address.asp x and find the direction to the antenna you are trying to reach. Use a compass and point the antenna in that direction at the highest point possible and as far away from walls/windows as possible. That is your best bet to getting good signals.

Ideally, you need a good roof-top antenna for a strong, solid connection.

Keep in mind also that weather is a solid determining factor if you are far from the source. One day a channel may be there and literally you may never see that channel again (from my own experience)
