, the analog setting will get me 3 stations. Any ideas on what to do?
(Should I just return and forget about having TV)
Thank you A Well Lit Garden
We are using the antenna indoors but it can go outside so we will give it a try.
We haven't had a TV in 20 years so all this is very new and confusing
thank you!
Are you using an indoor RCA antenna? If you are, then my guess is that your signal strength is too weak to pull in the digital channels. Analog channel picture quality will degrade as the signal strength weakens, but you generally can receive a picture. With digital channels, you will not consistently receive a picture if signal strength falls much below 30 - 40%.
Can you use an outdoor antenna? The following web site can provide you a lot of useful information: http://www.antennaweb.org Use the "Choose an Antenna" selection along with your location information to determine what channels you should expect to receive (if you live in the US). This site will also inform you of the direction you need to train your antenna for each channel, what type of antenna works best at your location, and the need for amplification on your antenna.

Hi, I'm looking for an indoor digital tv antenna to pick up HD/digital channels. The problem is all the towers are about 41 miles away. I tried a simple RCA antenna from Walmart but it wasn't strong enough. Any suggestions for an indoor digital antenna that can reach over 40 miles?
See if these links will help. Digital TV isn't like analog where a weak signal gets a little snowy, but you can still watch it. With digital TV, when the signal gets weak, the picture is gone.
Adding an amplifier will not help. Amplifiers will help if the antenna signal is good, but there are losses in the long cables from a roof to the TV.

Okay so I wanted to know the best antenna (give me a link to purchase it if possible) for digital TV that has the best signal range. So far I have I have bought 2 different ones which was a flat RCA antenna and another one which was an outdoor antenna and they both work no better then a cheap 5 dollar antenna. Also the amplifier that came with the RCA did not help as much.
Thanks a lot for your time.

Go here, enter as much info as you want (it doesn't really need to know everything). Click on through.
You'll get to a page that shows what stations are available (with multiple channels on certain stations) and what distances they are. You'll also see a color code. Write that info down along with what RF channel the signal is broadcasted on, which can be different than the channel you'll see on your TV.
If it's above channel 13 (RF channel, ignore the other channel number) then you'll need a UHF antenna that can bring in a signal from that far away.
7-13 is upper VHF, 2-6 is lower VHF. UHF is the tougher frequency so go with the furthest distance you need and get a VHF/UHF combo antenna that will do what you need.
Sounds complicated but it's really not.

My brother travels the states and can never get reception for his truck tv for local channels. We've tried an RCA indoor antenna, but it didn't work- one that sits on the tv and looks like a cap with really long antennas. If you have any suggestions I would really appreciate them. Thanks so much.
Try one of those amplified indoor ones from radio shack or partsexpress.com. Or you could get a large TV antenna and mount it to the back of your cab on the outside. Run the wire inside to your TV and... I think I would try the small amplified way first. But I bet a large ant. mounted in the back out of the way of wind would work awesome. Radio Shack also sells adjustable RF amps. too.
