Should I expect better DTV reception from an indoor antenna?
cyber monday sales Terk HDTVa Indoor Amplified High-Definition Antenna for Off-Air HDTV Reception

I live about 15 - 20 miles from the antenna towers. The landscape includes hills, though my house sits at a fairly high elevation. My picture flickers out-of-reception when my family walks around the room. Is this normal? I can put up an outdoor antenna, but I don't want to go to that much trouble unless it is required.
The antenna I am using is a DTV antenna

Well, if your TV flickers with people walking around the room do not expect it to IMPROVE your situation....

Digital reception gives you either a CLEAN picture or NO PICTURE.
Since humans are mostly comprised of water, they can easily block the signal no matter what type of signal is being recieved.

The KEY is to get your antenna positioned so it has a clear line-of-sight with the TV transmitters.
That's why outdoor antennas work better...
And outdoor antennas on a 40 foot tower work even better.
And Satellite dishes work really good, even when they are 120 miles above the earth...

Clear line-of-sight between the transmitter and the reciever antennas...

Is it true that yu can get a good reception using a set top box and an indoor antenna?
black friday Terk HDTVa Indoor Amplified High-Definition Antenna for Off-Air HDTV Reception

I have been told that you can get a good reception using a settop box and an indoor digital antenna compared to using a standard analogue indoor antenna. What specifications should you consider? I do not need anything fancy (eg High definition) just want a decent reception with having to install a new antenna on the roof.

There is NO DIFFERENCE between a standard Analog antenna and the "supposedly" DIGITAL antenna....

That is a big "sales gimmick"....

I have used my tabletop antenna with a power amp for YEARS with no problem...Of course if I had to use it everyday, I would get me an OUTDOOR antenna with the correct type/style for the area I live in....and I would use this to get all the info I need :

Is the old fashioned loop antenna the best for indoor digital tv reception?

Is the old fashioned loop antenna the best antenna out of all antennae (I wanted a reason to say "antennae") for indoor digital tv reception? I believe I read or saw this somewhere?

In some locations yes, but in most locations no.

The locations where they work best have the following characteristics:

-Close to TV transmitter (high signal strength)
-No muti-path problems
-All TV stations transmitting in UHF frequency band

Classic 7.5" diameter loops only work in the UHF band. They don't work worth squat with VHF signals. Many areas in the US do have VHF digital stations.

Loops have low gain, so they won't work well for distant reception.

And loops are not very directional, so if you have multi-path problems with your TV signals, they don't tend to work very well.

(Muti-path means that TV signals are reflected off of objects such that your TV antenna receives more than one version of the signal from a single station. This causes "ghosts with analog reception, but it can easily confuse a digital TV tuner such that the reception breaks up.)

Why can't I recieve reception off my indoor antenna?

I've tried atleast 4 different kinds, but none of them work. I follow the directions on the box, but still nothing. What could be the problem here?
-The actual TV is a "1080 HD"
-I have not purchased a converter box yet, I am currently using DirectTV
-Only one of my local channels have shown up, the others are just a fuzz
-I live near a highway, and there are trees nearby
-What's up with it?

Go to www.antennaweb.org to see how far you are from your stations and what antenna you need.

An indoor antenna may not be powerful enough for where you live. You also need to point them directly to the source (antenna towers).

how can i improve the reception of indoor antenna?

i bought an antenna for my dtv converter box but it seems it doesnt recieve any channels. i tried moving the antenna around, changing amp, checked the cables but it non of them help.

The only time I have ever seen an Indoor antenna work properly is when you are in line of sight of the TV station transmitters. You need to determine how far you are from the TV transmitting antennas, direction and use an outdoor type UHF antenna. The digital signal is not an easy bugger to receive compare to analog.

Consumers’ desire for a more-affordable, high-performing and attractive indoor antenna for DTV is being met with Antennas Direct’s new ClearStream Micron antenna. As a manufacturer of the most effective antennas for DTV, Antennas Direct decided to merge its uniquely powerful antenna technology into a 9-by-11-inch black flat-panel antenna design with an MSRP of under $50. The ClearStream Micron looks stylish on any surface in the home, while offering the most powerful DTV reception in an indoor antenna for an affordable price.

“Consumers are asking for thinner antennas, but before now, this meant severe performance penalties. The DTV reception of most indoor flat-panel antennas is greatly inadequate,” said Richard Schneider, president of Antennas Direct. “With the breakthrough ClearStream Micron, we have been able to reach a level of performance only thought possible in a much larger design. Since our company specializes in creating small and powerful antennas for digital television, we were able to create a superior flat-panel antenna specifically tuned for the core UHF DTV band.”
