Antennas Answers
The antenna was bent at the base and the motor is running trying to pull it down but it can't retract. Big question: is it something I can do or should I take it to the Toyota dealer?

Anybody know of a currently availible cell phone model with a retractable antenna, or at least a very large one? I travel in rural areas a lot, and live in an area with poor reception. In-car solutions not a possibility.

I have an antenna that is supposed to be retractable. It is bottom loaded, has a plastic piece in the middle, and a whip which comes out the top of this plastic piece. Under the magnet on the bottom there is a screw. How do I retract the antenna?
Thanks,
Nick
The two I've looked at on the Cobra site didn't seem to be retractable.
Here is the link for Cobra support, they can probably identify the antenna and give you some instructions.
If you have a model number it would help a lot with this question.

I just bought a 2004 Hyundai Tiburon (Tuscani). It has a non-retractable screw on-off type antenna. I want to remove it so I can take it through a car wash, but it won't screw out, even with pliers. I had a Hyundai dealership look at it and they say it is seized and can not be removed. Surely there must be something that can be done to unjam it?
add oil to ur antenna..it can be tat u cant replace a antenna... r u sure..get it checked from a mechanic
Where I work in the break room we have a newer 20" Dynex tube style tv which has a DTV tuner built in, but they are using a older non amplified phillips antenna with the round thing by the retractable ones. We only get one channel using dtv and 2 channels on analog. Is there anything we can do to get a better signal. We are on the 1st floor of a 3 story office building.
Two analog and one digital station, that's pretty poor performance any way you look at it.
I don't know what the situation is in your building, however, if you could get the antenna outside or at least close to a window it would probably help. I'm not a fan of amplified antennas, however in this circumstance it may be something you want to consider because of the constraints of working in a building that you don't own. Your options are limited.
I hope this helps. Please return and select a Best Answer from all of those submitted.

Should The Makers Of Ied Components Be Persecuted?
At a fireworks trade show in North Dakota, i saw they were selling a Remote Detonator, straight out of the movies, for $20 each. The transmitter was a keychain smaller than most car’s door lock fob’s, with sliding cover and retractable antenna. The receiver was 1″ x 2″ x .75″ with retractable antenna, and ran on those N-size 12v batteries (pill size). The receiver had two push-terminals for which you connected the leads of the electronic ignitor into (like for model rocket engines, although the same trade show sold high quality ignitors like weatherproof match heads as well) so it was incredibly easy.
Do you really have any clue what your are talking about. You can go to Radio Shack and Walmart and but IED components. This is America, not Iraq or any other country that is not free. You can go to crazy trade fairs like you just did and buy stuff for your hobby. It does not normally mean people are going to be stocking up on stuff and running home to their makeshift IED lab out behind the double-wide trailer to make a herd of IED’s. People CAN buy these things, but MOST people are not going to make IED’s or anything else than stuff they use for their own entertainment in a safe manner. Remember Oklahoma City? That bomb was made out of farm fertilizer. Do you think you should need a government license to buy that too. Just because there are idiots out their blowing things up does not mean the majority of the people are IED manufactures behind closed doors. You worry me more than the people in the middle east that you are freaking about. Believe it or not, Iraq has their own supply of this crap and it probably did not get shipped to them from your backwoods trade show in North Dakota! You need to spend sometime in school getting a good education instead of worrying about this crap. If you really want to blow up the world or a Soldiers leg you wouldn’t need this much planning and calculating. Yes it sucks, but it is true.
