Lets say I have cable from Comcast, antenna on the roof and satellite antenna. OK, how do I hook it up to TV so that I don’t have to unscrew one coax cable and then connect other coax cable to watch other antenna? I know I probably will have to have digital box for regular antenna, box for satellite, and box from cable company. HOW DO I HOOK IT UP
They make a switch box that accepts up to 3 inputs, and you choose your source with just a slide of the switch. About 20.00.

I want to get either cable or satellite for my tv. I need HD high defination since I bought a 42' Panisonic plasma tv. How can I understand the terms and do I have to sign a long term contract? I live in a fringe area. I can get several channels off the air now using my old antenna but I want to get better reception. What has the better picture direct tv or dish tv?
Hi! You'll be pleased with the picture quality whether you go with Dish or DirecTV, as you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference between the two. You will definitely want to go with a receiver (the box that plugs into your TV) that is most compatible with the input options your TV has available- most likely DVI or HDMI. These two connections will provide for the highest quality picture, although component inputs provide HD signals as well.
There are advantages to cable as well, particularly the fact that you won't have to have the dish installed and your service won't be interrupted by foliage growth, weather, or other obstructions. My advice to you would be consider the current promotions offered by your local cable company as well as both Dish and DirecTV. In my personal experience (I've had Time Warner/Comcast, Dish and DirecTV), Comcast has provided the best customer service but you will hear mixed answers on that concerning all 3 providers.
Contracts are usually the norm with the two satellite providers. Comcast will usually offer a promotion period of pricing but generally don't require a contract for service.
In conclusion, just ensure that whichever service you go with, you receive an HD receiver with compatible outputs, and ideally an HD DVR (digital video recorder).
One last note, be wary of local "authorized" Dish/DirecTV dealers...they sometimes add additonal fees to terminate a contract (in the event that you do) or sign up even though the deal looks great on paper.

i mean to use it like an antenna to pick up over the air tv stations or digital tv.
That's not going to work.
Antennas work on frequency. Satellites work in the microwave band, over the air TV works in the VHF and UHF bands. One antenna will not work on the other band.

hi
i want to make ad hoc/peer to peer network between two computers which are approximately 0.85 mile (1.36765 KM) away from each other. For this purpose i need additional antenna to boost or extend my range/coverage. so my question is that which kind of antenna should i use, a parabolic antenna or a satellite/TV dish??
please dont tell me to reject this plan as i asked and studied about this, and it is possible!!!!!!
if you think it is impossible then visit the link below:

A satellite dish IS a parabolic antenna. However it may not be ideal for a wireless network due to its design. You can buy purpose built dishes and waveguides for 802.11b, g, and n networks.
For distances of about 3 miles or less, a yagi would be adequate and less expensive than a parabolic dish. A parabolic dish at either end can extend line-of-site communications out to 20 miles easily using standard 802.11 wireless equipment. Aiming is critical with a dish and the farther the distance the more important that it becomes. Yagi are more forgiving -- alignment by eye is usually sufficient.
there is direct tv
otherwise,no.
unless you want network feeds on older k band

Using Satellite Dish TV Antenna
Satellite dish TV receivers are one way that people can get a multitude of television channels for one low price. There are many options in packages that these companies offer, so that people of all different means can afford a package that serves their needs. The packages are usually formatted so that the price of the satellite dish TV antenna is configured in the first few months of the package so that the cost is not prohibitive to anyone gaining the service. It is a great deal since there are many different channels that are available to users through their satellite TV antenna dish. Often more than one TV can be hooked up through the one low package price so that all the TVs in the home can be formatted to watch these channels.
