I want to be able to have satelite radio in 3 different cars but I don't want to buy 3 antennas/radios.
You can feasibly put your antenna on the dash and still receive the satellite signal. However, doing this will leave you open to more periods of signal loss and bursts of silence. There are enough obstacles already that inhibit your satellite signal while driving, so eliminating one would generally make sense.
You should have a usable radio most of the time though as long as you put the antenna as far forward as possible. If you have a windshield that is more vertical than horizontal, you will not have as much luck with this though.
Good luck!
Installing an XM or SIRIUS satellite radio antenna in an extended cab pickup truck.
I have a 2006 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited with SIRIUS Satellite Radio factory installed. I have a Sirius subscription and I get good reception, but I was just curious as to where the antenna is mounted.
Under the top of the center of the dash on 2007 and up and is not visible, the 2006 is mounted on the roll bar just above the speaker pod.

Windowsill mount antenna with adjustable tilt-base
I live in an apartment building with windows facing east and a sirius radio signal to the west/northwest. I got a signal for about 5 minutes with the radio facing southwest (it went out), then 5 minutes of signal facing it north & then it went out again. I have it sitting outside on the windowledge, but still nothing. I can't attach an outdoor kit because I live in a BRICK, apt. building. What can I do to make my indoor/outdoor antenna work???!!!!
Sarah, it depends on where you live, which antenna you have and how you position it. If you haven't already studied the tips (below) then you should call Sirius customer support. It is possible, depending on where you live, that the building is blocking the signal. But Sirius Installation tips says you should be able to get a signal if you have an indoor/outdoor antenna and it's positioned properly.
However, if you are at the geographic extremes of the signal, very far south or north, like upstate Maine or Washington or deep in southern Texas, that could be the problem and you may have to switch to an outdoor antenna and have a friend help you install. You could also talk to the landlord or superintendent of your building. Maybe get it on the roof and run some wire down to a window.
I take it you are in the Northeast part of the country. If you are in one of certain cities, Sirius uses ground repeaters that pick up the signal and beam it into your town for a stronger signal. This is all explained in the link below. Go to the link and read it thoroughly if you haven't already. (hint: there are several options, keep hitting the back button and selecting another option in the Tips section-you may find an answer that will work).
Call Sirius (make sure you have your account number handy) 1-888-539-SIRIUS (7474), maybe their tech support people can help. They'll certainly know more than any of us on Answers ;<)
Or, as another answerer says, use the online option. It's highly unlikely that the antenna is defective - though possible. If nothing else works, You may have to purchase some extra options that are also explained in the below link.
Good luck

I don't see why an LMR cable would work. Such as LMR240 or LMR400. LMR is a 50ohm cable. It's used in many Wireless antenna distributions.
The 240 version is smaller like an RG6u and the LMR400 is larger (for longer runs) Minimal loss at a 100ft. OR LMR600 for 200ft runs.

Sirius XM#39;s New Satellite Up And Running - SiriusBuzz
While official word has not yet been released, we have the understanding that Sirius XM’s new satellite is up and operational. The new satellite was launched at the end of the second quarter and has been undergoing various tests prior to the company accepting delivery and pumping content through to subscribers.
This latest satellite was contracted by Sirius Satellite radio prior to the merger. Unlike the other satellites in the Sirius constellation, this satellite sits in a fixed geostationary orbit. This satellite is more powerful than the higher orbiting satellites utilized by Sirius in the past. Subscribers to the Sirius feed may notice changes in reception in areas where they were getting “drop-outs” in the past.
