TV Antenna Mounts

I want to mount an antenna (TV) outside of the house, but live in a dip, and reception is not the greatest at housetop level. Want to know best material, bracing, lightning/grounding details. If this would be a job best left to an outside installer.

I saw the triangle shape eave bracket that screws into the eave at 3 points. Is this a good way to do it?

Not Talking about just slapping some screws up, I am talking about using the proper mounting brackets.

It depends on the antenna and the eve. If the antenna isn't too heavy for the eve, it should be OK. Just make sure that the antenna's view of the transmitter is not blocked by the house, or trees, or other houses, etc. Also make sure to properly ground the antenna for safety.

I've used the $40 coupon and I've bought the DTV converter box. The old, brown , insulation on my outdoor antenna has deteriorated. Can I replace the old wire with coaxial and happily receive TV signals?

Yes.. You can buy a Matching Transformer at Radio Shack for about 5 bucks...It converts the flat wire to coax cable.

We've tried 2 different large roof mount antennas (one brand new) and 2 different tv's (both 10+ yrs but worked well till now). The old antenna was a little beat up, but working well, then suddenly no reception. We replaced it, no improvement. Hooked up the other tv, no improvement. Inspected the antenna cable and found no obvious damage. We installed the cable ourselves when we built the house, so we know there are no splices. What else could be the problem?

All it takes is rats or other rodents chewing on it. I lost a thick walled fuel line to a single puncture by a squirrel.

You could get a length of coax and temporarily by-pass your current cable to verify the cable is bad.

Looking for one with both 300 ohm and 75 ohm inputs, preferably with a remote gain control.

Look for the lowest noise figure and the highest gain as a start. I've used a Galaxy preamp for over 20 years with no problems. I also use a Channel Master preamp for my Digital Converter Box to get stations a far as 75 miles on UHF. It works great. Not familiar with any that have a remote gain control.
