How do I secure a tv antenna tower?
Heli-Swiss Super Puma very close to Sutton Coldfield TV Mast

I am going to install a tv tower (3-20ft. sections) and would like to know how in ensure this will be sturdy an secure. Seems like a fairly simple so it yourself project with the correct directions.

Pick a place far away from power lines - you don't want to fry yourself.

You will need 3 or 4 mounting anchors on the ground. If 3, let them be in 60-degrees angles. If 4, at 90 degrees.

I would use at least 2 anchor point on the antenna itself. One at about the half point, one at about 80% from the top. Secure the anchor points on the antenna to all anchor points on the ground.

How does the design of a TV tower antenna help it to get a better signal?
Lunar Halo Before Eclipse

What is it about the design of an antenna that helps it to function more efficiently? How exactly does it pull the signals in?

Would it hurt, help, or not really affect the reception, if I attatched a metal object to it? Would it give it more surface area for signals to be absorbed through or interfere with the origional design?

The number and size of the elements (rods) are determined by the frequency you want to receive. To receive multiple frequencies, the rods will be of different lengths. The should be horizontal because TV signals are horizontally polarized.

The design is important and any added metal, etc., would probably do more harm than good as it would interfere with the design.

I put in the link below to give you pictures of the antennas. Each design has its own advantages and disadvantages, depending on what you need.

Has anyone used an old TV antenna tower to mount a wind mill? Pictures please.?

As the stresses on a windmill tower are far greater than on an antenna tower, I very much doubt if anyone has even tried.

tower attached to home for tv antenna (20' - 30')?
51 / 365 - They're out there

Where can I buy this, new or used?

Check with Radio Shack or CB radio dealer for info.
I also found a website called antennaweb.org which has a lot of specific info & also try the Consumer Electronics Assoc.

I'm interested in using an aerial antenna for nearly free reception of some HDTV & analog stations.

In February 2009 all TV will go digital & analog signals will be obsolete. All will have to get a converter box. Of course HDTV will go the route of digitalization too. The air waves aren't even free.

Are you a BabyBoomer like me? Can you remember when cable TV was first offered. Every one fussed be paid so that they were guaranteed no commerial interuptions? Ya, they didn't last long either.

Find the height of tower and the height of an antenna?

An antenna is on the top of a tv transmission tower. At a point 236m from the base of the tower,the angles of elevation of the top and lad of antenna are 44º20' & 44º10' respectively.Find the height of tower and the height of an antenna?

44deg20' = 44.333333... deg
44deg10' = 44.166666... deg

htop = 236m x tan(44.333333...deg) = 230.57m
hlad = 236m x tan(44.666666...deg) = 229.23m

    September 11, 2001. It’s been eight years today. We’ll all ask each other today, “where were you”. So here’s my story.

    Life, at least when that morning began, seemed good. I’ve always been a work at home dad, so I was home with my two girls. The youngest was almost four months old, and the oldest was approaching her fourth birthday. It was a normal morning. The little one was asleep, “fat and happy” as we used to say, after a morning bottle. The oldest was in the living room just a few feet from my office watching PBS Kids on the TV as I worked on a project for a client.

    Then this arrived in my inbox:

    I got up, walked to the living room and flipped the TV to CNN. They were talking about how a pilot could make such an error, hitting such a large building. They were speculating that it was just a small plane. But then as the TV news helicopters zoomed their cameras in closer, the anchors were beginning to notice what I had already thought….those holes the tower were to big to have been a small plane.
