I am going to install a tv tower (3-20ft. sections) and would like to know how in ensure this will be sturdy an secure. Seems like a fairly simple so it yourself project with the correct directions.
Pick a place far away from power lines - you don't want to fry yourself.
You will need 3 or 4 mounting anchors on the ground. If 3, let them be in 60-degrees angles. If 4, at 90 degrees.
I would use at least 2 anchor point on the antenna itself. One at about the half point, one at about 80% from the top. Secure the anchor points on the antenna to all anchor points on the ground.
Demolition of 33 year old TV antenna tower in Jumeirah, Dubai, UAE. The tower will be replaced by fiber optic system.
What is it about the design of an antenna that helps it to function more efficiently? How exactly does it pull the signals in?
Would it hurt, help, or not really affect the reception, if I attatched a metal object to it? Would it give it more surface area for signals to be absorbed through or interfere with the origional design?
The number and size of the elements (rods) are determined by the frequency you want to receive. To receive multiple frequencies, the rods will be of different lengths. The should be horizontal because TV signals are horizontally polarized.
The design is important and any added metal, etc., would probably do more harm than good as it would interfere with the design.
I put in the link below to give you pictures of the antennas. Each design has its own advantages and disadvantages, depending on what you need.

As the stresses on a windmill tower are far greater than on an antenna tower, I very much doubt if anyone has even tried.
I live by Cal State L.A.. In which direction should I point my antenna to have the best L.O.S. to the most TV towers? I can't point north as there is a hill directly behind my house.

I heard that the company that hires people to climb up cell phone, and TV towers to replace light bulbs and maintain the towers pay very well. I have been looking for a company that hires people to do that locally in Cincinnati, Ohio and I cant find one for the life of me. Does anyone one here know what the job position is called or better yet any company's here in Cincinnati that hire to do that?
Check out www.pexx.com - they appear to be a company that does this.
Be aware- if a job pays a lot of money, then that usually means there are also a lot of people trying to work there. If you dont have experience, then it might be a longshot. Not that you shouldnt try- but you might want to explore other avenues as well.

A massive wildfire on Sunday, Aug. 30, 2009 was on the verge of reaching Mount Wilson, where 22 television stations and many radio stations have their transmitters. (AP Photo, file)
LOS ANGELES -- Mount Wilson opened the heavens and then became a modern hub for communications on Earth. Now it is threatened by a force of nature that humans may be powerless to control.
The wildfire ravaging the mountains north of Los Angeles drew within a half-mile of the revered Mount Wilson Observatory Monday, threatening the birthplace of modern astronomy as well as a virtual forest of communication towers that serve the region.
