My wall-mounted TV has HDMI cable coming through wall but no coax. Can I hook TV to antenna without coax?

The installers did not run a coax cable through the wall and now I want to cancel my cable and use an antenna instead. Is there a way to connect my TV to an antenna without hiring someone to take the TV off the wall and run a new coax cable?

You would need an external digital TV tuner that has an HDMI output. There aren't a lot of choices. The two I know of are:

- Samsung DTB-H260F external tuner, about $160

- The TiVo HD unit, which has dual digital tuners. Its about $250 new, but TiVo has refurbished ones for $180. I just bought one and am very happy with it. However, it does have a monthly subscription price of $13.

It doesn't seem like it would be that expensive to have someone thread a coax line up the wall. Probably cheaper than either of the two above options.

Connecting a wall mounted LCD TV to antenna/scart etc through a wall?

I would like to connect my lcd tv to my sky box, antenna, vd player etc, by runing wires in the wall. Is there an easy way to do this? Seems like having to run 3 scart leads and antenna wire, power cable etc up through the wall is a cumbersome way of doing this.

Well for pro-audio / video applications, I know Extron Electronics makes transmitter and receiver units connected via a singe ethernet cable which can handle multiple highdef video feeds as well as audio.

Could be pretty expensive for a single install...not positive, but it may be a good place to start looking.

LCD TV wall mounting - where do the cables go?

Hi all,

I just moved house, bought a LCD TV. At my housewarming people keep commenting why I don't wall-mount the LCD TV?

I had thought about it, but I bought TV stand anyway, because where else would my DVD player, 5.1 amplifier, Playstation go?

But with so much comment about 'how good wall mounting' would look, I am beginning to rethink. But WHERE DO THE CABLES GO???

If I do a wall mount, There would be 6 cables (Power, Antenna, HDMI, Video, etc) draping down on the wall, and then it can connect to my other devices. Isn't that even worse looking then being on a TV stand?

The power is a special issue because of electrical and fire codes and doing this incorrectly has some real ramifications. However, a company by the name of Power Bridge has a great solution that I've used for both of my wall mounted TVs.

As far as the rest of the cabling is concerned, it is lot of work but I opened the wall and installed a low voltage channel where I can easily route wires and then patched the drywall.

Help, i wall mounted my TV, Now what!?!?!?!?

Ok so I just wall mounted my 32" LCD HD.....here are my questions/Concerns

1) My antenna cable wont fit behind my TV...what do I do?
2) My cords, none of them, reach my wall...what do I do?
3) how do I hide my cords a little bit?
4) I ahve an HD antenna i just bought...but dont see a differece, Should I just take it back?
5) I heard something about the "S" thingy giving a better piture...how do I do this???
6)anything else i can do to help my wall mounted TV?

Everythign and anything would be amazng..thankl you sooooo much!!

1) Get a "right angle" or 90 degree RF antenna cable

2) Use an extension cord with a 6 outlet surge suppressor.

3) Get inventive....Use a stand underneath your TV for the DVD and cable/satellite box and Dolby amp.....then get a tall vertical vase and stick long Fake Flowers in them like you get at a Hobby / Craft store....it should hide the cables, especially if you tie them together.

4) An HD antenna is just another antenna....You MUST have HD TV stations, showing Prime Time TV shows recorded in HD. Then in your Autoprogram settings in your menu, you must look for the possibility of "Digital station" programming being separate from Analog programming....Sony and Samsung have them separate on certain models because it can take up to 20 minutes to search the entire "Digital Spectrum" for TV stations...

5) The "S thingy" you're referring to is the S-Video connection..."Super Video".
It's Low Definition and in your case, not worth dealing with....
You have COMPONENT and HDMI connections....THOSE are Hi Definition, so use them......

6) You can have some fun and place a Picture Frame around the TV set or make a 3 dimensional frame using various art forms like paper mache and dried flowers/fake flowers or go with those neon lamps underneath cars (turn them off when watching TV)

Have fun.

Do I need antenna for LCD TV?

Hi,

Does rabbit-ear antenna works and delivers the same result to both ANALOG TV and HDTV LCD?

I would like to buy Samsung's new full HDTV (Series 6) but I do not have wall-mounted (rooftop) antenna at home.

Current condition is I am using analog TV with rabbit-ear indoor antenna and the result is not good.

Do I have to buy a rooftop antenna for the new LCD TV to ensure its reception quality or rabbit-ear will be sufficient?

Many Thanks.

Just want to add:
* I live in Melbourne, Australia
* the LCD that I will buy has already got an integrated HD receiver.

The rabbit ear antenna will work, but you need to get a HD converter box. After feb 2009 the signal that rabbit ears pick up is going to get changed, so you need to get a converter box if you plan on getting over-the-air signal using rabbit-ears after feb 2009.

Newer TVs have the converter built in alot of times, however if you are getting a crappy signal with the rabbit ears you may want to buy an AMPLIFIED antenna, I say it in caps cause i see people waste their money on non-amplified versions. Also, you can get amplified indoor antennas that can be mounted on a wall or in your attic if you dont want to put one on the roof.
