Put it as close to the antenna without interfering with the antenna that you can. Make sure all connections are clean. Use decent cables (not the ones that have the ends molded onto the cable like its all one piece). Try to use RG-6 instead of RG-59 and quad shield is better than regular. Make sure that the outer braided wire isnt touching the inner solid core wire where the connectors at the ends are. And lastly visit this website, its not all about HDTV and has lots of good info on antennas and stuff.

anyone have any tips on how to get great reception and some of those further away stations?
does a longer wire help?..... does it work better if i routed it through my attic?..... i have a way to hook it up to my television rooftop antenna, would that work?.... i tried those 30 dollars antenna boosters and it didn't seem to help.... does it have to have a certain resistance... or will a large gage wire work better?...
Hook it up to your rooftop Antenna, the FM band is between channel6 and channel 7 on the TV band. Get a 2 way splitter at Radio Shack to inset between the TV and your FM Radio. :)

I live a bit more than fifty miles from the nearest large city so I use a booster. Whenever it rains or snows, I can barely watch my television. Is there some way to protect the antenna from the elements?
Not really! Your best bet would be to get a stronger antenna! Newer ones can be either flat and mountable on the side of the house or the roof! Also they come in pole form and look like a satellite on a battleship! They are small in cost and should be affordable. You might also think about getting an external amplifier that will let you get up to an extra 20 miles distance!

My T.V. is a new digital television and my antennae is a large directional antennae . It worked o.k. for analogue before. I bought a motorola signal amplifier and it would not work for the t.v.: . The tech. guy says that it's a different frequency. My question is , is there a digital signal booster that can go from the antennae to the t.v. and not to a converter box or dvd player.
I would appreciate any help guys.
thanks
p.s. i live about 35 miles from chicago if this helps.
it is not a problem with hook ups or channel scans, it's a weak signal problem for sure.
You will need an RF amplifier. There is nothing different about the RF carriers used to send digital signals in the Chicago area. In fact, you will find that channels 2 and 7 are still in the VHF bands. Often times products labeled for HDTV (like antenna) are restricted to the UHF bands only. Purchasing these products can result in the loss of the above channels but will allow you to pick-up the remaining digital channels in our area.
So there are a couple of obvious things to look at. Is your RF amplifier plugged into a power source? Is it turned on? Do you have it installed at or very near the antenna? Do you have the antenna's coax plugged into the input or antenna connector on the amplifier? Is the coax to the TV plugged into the output/TV connector? Have you selected air or antenna in your setup menu on your TV? Did your amplifier help with the reception of the analog channels? It should have if its working right. Maybe you just have a defective amplifier. RF amplifiers can be purchased with various levels of amplification. I use an RF amp with 15 dB of gain and I live 44 miles from the signal sources in Chicago. I have no problems with digital channel reception.
After years of not having a television in my room ive decided to turn to the dark side and invest in one!!!
Am going to be havin an lcd tv and a dvd recorder with built in freeview.Because the dvd recorder has built in freeview will i still need to get a freeview box for my tv???
Also i dont have a lead coming from the loft aerial(antenna)to plug into the tv/dvd recorder and those crappy aerials you buy(that sit on your tv) wont be good enough to get good signal for my freeview? Will i need to get one of those booster aerials and will it work being as though the freeview is built into my dvd recorder?Any advice on how to connect it all up,recommended equipment to use and how to do it would be much appreciated!!!
A good quality booster aerial will work nicely. It won't cost much to have a new feed taken into your room from the main aerial in the loft.
To connect it up, plug the aerial into the DVD Recorder and then you can scart across between the DVD Recorder and the TV.

How to make a Cheap WiFi Antenna Booster - Systm
This is to be used on the router. The router is the output, the laptop is the input. Lets say you were getting signal on your front porch from the router in your living room, now that signal wasn’t really strong enough for you to do anything with on your laptop, making this booster could potentially help you to access internet from that spot. I hope this example helps.
