Television Antenna

What kind of antenna is best to use, especially in a high rise? Should I use Analog, or Digital, for the best picture. WHAT type, brand, price, etc. is best, for a quality, indoor, television antenna? Any suggestions?

If you have a big lots near you, in their electrical isle you will find a antenna that is BOTH analog and digital for 1.00-2.00 depending on where you live. It works just fine.
If you do not have a big lots then you may want to try walmart for a good cheap antenna.

I want to get rid of cable and put up a television antenna. Can I undo where the cable comes into the house and then hook this to an outside antenna.

Of course, but DO NOT completely undo it. Install a simple 2-to-1 video mixer. On the mixer inputs install the output of the antenna and the Cable feed. Feed the output to your TV. Just make sure the mixer has the appropriate bandwidth to support HD Signals. You can install the mixer wherever it is more convenient for you.

I am putting up a television antenna on the outside of my home. Can the grounding rod be attached to the mast or must it be driven into the ground to work properly?

it should be driven into the ground or u stand a good chance of allowing a lighting strike to jump of the end of the rod and to the nearest available cunductor, causing a fire or severe electrical damage

"A 40-foot television antenna stands on top of a building. From a point on the ground, the angles of elevation to the top and bottom of the antenna measure 56 degrees and 42 degrees respectively. How tall is the building?"

The television antenna is 40 foot

the distance from the base of the building to the base of the tower will be "X" height

The angle to the top of the 40 foot tower is 56 degrees and the angle to the bottom of the tower is 42 degrees

The angle between the 42 deg and the 56 degree is 14 degrees (56- 42 deg =14)

And the tower height is 40 feet in that triangle with a 14 degree known angle.

Then you just do a proportionate angle equation:

14 deg is to 40 feet,
as 42 degrees is to X feet, solve for X

14deg / 42 deg = 40feet / X feet

X= 120 feet height of building

Just trying to figure out some DTV solutions. I have a non-powered set of rabbit ears and I'm not getting much results. I live nearly 60 miles from most local stations.

What you are talking about is an amplified antenna. I would doubt that an amplified set of rabbit ears would help you all that much at your range and especially if there are any hills between where you live and the broadcast towers. However, in general, an amplified antenna in any situation where you are having a marginal signal is a great idea.
