A wire is stretched from ground to the top of an antenna tower. The wire is 20ft long. The height of the tower is 4 ft greater than the distance d from the towers base to the bottom of the wire. Find the distance d and the height of the tower.
this forms a right triangle with hypothenus 20, height d+4, and base d.
Using the pythagorean theorem we get:
(d+4)² + d² = 20²
d² + 8d + 16 + d² = 400
2d² + 8d + 16 = 400
2d² + 8d - 384 = 0
Use the quadratic equation to solve for d
d = [-8±√(8²-4∙2∙(-384) )] / 2∙2
for which we get d = -16 (reject because negative) and
d = 12
height = d + 4 = 16
note that 12²+16² = 20²

What is it about the design of an antenna that helps it to function more efficiently? How exactly does it pull the signals in?
Would it hurt, help, or not really affect the reception, if I attatched a metal object to it? Would it give it more surface area for signals to be absorbed through or interfere with the origional design?
The number and size of the elements (rods) are determined by the frequency you want to receive. To receive multiple frequencies, the rods will be of different lengths. The should be horizontal because TV signals are horizontally polarized.
The design is important and any added metal, etc., would probably do more harm than good as it would interfere with the design.
I put in the link below to give you pictures of the antennas. Each design has its own advantages and disadvantages, depending on what you need.
Price: $27.99
Adjustable built-in amplification for optimum signal clarity
Included accessories - AC/DC power adapter, 75 ohm to 300 ohm transformer, 75 ohm F connector to 75 ohm screw-type connector
Superb performance is further enhanced by unique Air Coil technology which electrically isolates AM and FM elements
Two antennas in one ? It can function either as an omnidirectional antenna for great reception from all directions and from distant or weak stations
Dimensions - 17H x 3W x 3-1/2D
I am going to install a tv tower (3-20ft. sections) and would like to know how in ensure this will be sturdy an secure. Seems like a fairly simple so it yourself project with the correct directions.
Pick a place far away from power lines - you don't want to fry yourself.
You will need 3 or 4 mounting anchors on the ground. If 3, let them be in 60-degrees angles. If 4, at 90 degrees.
I would use at least 2 anchor point on the antenna itself. One at about the half point, one at about 80% from the top. Secure the anchor points on the antenna to all anchor points on the ground.
Why are ballons tie in between two tower-size Antenna wires along the freeway?
Are these ballons there for a reason?
Your answers below sounds right. But I will wait a day or two to see if there is a better answer. And if you can indicate a source, that will be best. thanks guys.
Yes, otherwise, those wires would be completely invisible to planes who might have to fly that low, like when the police use them to check speed, or, if there is an airport nearby, ooor, somebody is checking the gasline from the air..
antenna tower refered for a cb antenna to hold vertical or horizonal beam antennas that can weigh up to 30 to 70 pds.
Sure, you can build it yourself from scratch out of wood or some other insulator (like rigid PVC pipe). The complexity of the tower is dependent on how high you want to go with it. Don't forget guying it against wind forces, or the weight of the cable in your design.
