i have an outdoor vhf/uhf combo antenna, first the leads are touching the mast of the antenna and i was wondering if this would cause resistance in my signal,2nd i have the lead for the vhf on one side of the transformer and the uhf lead on the other side, one side is 300ohm and the other is 75ohm;which side is for vhf and which side is for uhf?or can i put both on one side?the reason for asking is-i have really good signal from an hdtv broadcast station, but another station from close to same location hasn't made the total switch to hdtv and their signal is poor. hope someone can help...thanks
digital is now going in UHF brand, so I would ditch a VHF antenna because its really bulky and UHF tend to be smaller antenna's. Right now channel master 4 bays are really good UHF antennas. Just google the channel master4221HD antenna, also a good pre amp will give you a boost.
More info at www.outdoorindoortvantennas.co m This indoor antenna can help you get lots of HDTV channels.
Need more info. Is it a rabbit ear set-up? The type that fits into a closet or attic?
Primarily you need to make sure that the connectors match - 300 ohm to 300 ohm (small spade ends that fit under a screw) or 75 ohm to 75 ohm (threaded barrel, female, to coaxial wire, male). Otherwise you need a basic convertor for a couple bucks or about a pound (I'm in US. I'm guessing you aren't). Don't worry about the radio part unless you are going thru a home theater receiver that has an input for this, too.
Next trick is determing the best place for the antenna. Some locations have better reception than others. Near a window, for instance, is good.
Then make sure your tv is set to antenna or air in it's menu. TVs are generally set to cable as the default setting.
Swivel BNC mount for any application
High quality with BNC connection

I can't afford satelite tv and live way out in the boonies.
I'm attaching several links which will allow you to investigate your requirement and available antennas.

Works up to 70 miles or more from transmitters
Very flexible aiming characteristics
Looking for one with both 300 ohm and 75 ohm inputs, preferably with a remote gain control.
Look for the lowest noise figure and the highest gain as a start. I've used a Galaxy preamp for over 20 years with no problems. I also use a Channel Master preamp for my Digital Converter Box to get stations a far as 75 miles on UHF. It works great. Not familiar with any that have a remote gain control.
Well, an antenna is more of a component than a circuit, but this website has a lot of info on TV stuff:
