What is a helical antenna and which is best for a two way radio, whip antenna or helical?

A helical antenna can be one of two things either it is an whip antenna wound in a spiral and usually covered in in a plastic or rubber coating. These are often known as a "rubber duck" antennae. They are less efficient than a whip antenna by several dB. Or, it is full sized helical aerial at VHF/UHF which is a large helically wound element with a reflector which is a circular polarized antenna which can be left or right polarized depending on the direction the active element is wound.

I have a 1997 Chevy Malibu. I have a CB radio with a 20 inch cable running through my trunk under my tail light to under my car. i had a piece of metal screwed into my back bumber frame on the right side. when i hook up my SWR tuner it reads 10.0 on all 40 channels i have no range with the 102 inch whip antenna and idk what to do.

this sounds like a grounding issue, check to make sure antenna and radio are properly grounded.

102 inch whip, once you get it squared away should be a killer antenna.

A whip antenna is usually a vertical thin wire and the bulk of the length is a simple "vertical radiator" or "straight bit of wire".

Most "rubber" aerials have loading coils to enable the overall length of the antenna to be reduced.

Some aerials (antenna) combine the "whippyness" with both "base loading" and also a spiral wind of wire to the top (around a fibreglass core usually). This might for example be used to make a 5/8ths wave antenna - offering good gain, fairly compact size and a fairly good frequency spread for transmitting (before needing to re-tune)

I'm looking for a large cb antenna i am trying to get a 6 foot tall whip but cant find one any suggestions?
i am hoping it as mounting hardware with it along with wire to just plug into my radio

There are 2 main brands of CB antennas in that class, the K40 (uses a 56" whip) and the Willson which uses a 60" whip. They both use a loading coil at the base and come in roof, trunk and magnet type mounts (with cable) for mobile use. Most truck stops and CB shops sell them.

Which Antenna is better for a CB? Firestick's antennas or an Old Sk00l 102" Stainless Steel Whip Antenna?

simple answer - length equals efficiency - nothing's gonna beat a 1/4 wave (102") whip for getting out and talking. Firesticks claim to be 1/4 or 5/8 wave, but all that wire is wrapped around a 3 or 4' section of fiberglass - it just doesn't get out as well. If you can get over the hillbilly factor (or prefer it) then go with the 102" whip every time.
