What is the best way to install the satellite antenna for xm radio for a 02 Chevy Truck?

Being a Nascar lover, you better be installing a Sirius anntenna or you will be up the creek next year.

Nascar goes to Sirius next year.

Can my XM antenna withstand an automatic car wash?

I have an XM radio in my truck. It uses an exterior antenna held in place by a magnet. Will an automatic car wash rip it off my truck, or can it handle the wash?

It Shouldn't do anything to the antenna. I've been through many car washes with my antenna and nothing has happened. Also, There are millions of cars out there with that antenna on the car already and they are still there!

using the XM Radio antenna on avalanche?

My Chevy avalanche has an XM radio antenna on the roof and i was wondering if its possible to use it as the antenna for my RoadyXT (i think thats the name).

The receiver for the roady has an antenna line that you plug in but where would i find that line coming from the trucks antenna?

The factory XM tuner is usually buried behind the glove box in these vehicles, but even if the antenna plug fits the Roady, it probably won't have enough slack to run to the new device.

How do you remove the XM antenna from a Silverado?

I'm putting a Sirius system in my truck and I want to use the nice little Sirius antenna. I don't see a way of removing the old large XM antenna. The wire must go thru the roof and I'd like to do the same for with the Sirius antenna and a little silicone. I’d use the XM antenna, but I don't think they have the same connector and I don't want to have two antennas on my roof.

Any suggestions?
conejote_99's: I actually put a new pioneer system in so I got the tuner for a pioneer. I was able to take the plastic off the XM connector and it worked.

the factory xm tuner is on the right side of the glove compartment unplug it remove it and unplug the antenna
now you can cut the plastic on the antenna plug from the factory xm and connect that to your new Sirius radio

i hope you are using this tuner

Is there an external antenna adapter that will link a sky fi 2 and a streamer to the same antenna?

I have just purchased a sirius sat. unit to complement my xm receiver so I can cont. to listen to nascar. I already have a 'mushroom' antenna hooked to the mirror mount of my truck and am right now using the mag. mouse for the streamer. I was wondering if there is an adaptor I could purchase that would link both receivers to the 'mushroom' or do I have to continue to run 2 antennae? Thnx for any help I can get.

Not the cheapest thing out there but I found a splitter for an XM antenna:
http://www.xm-radio-satellite.com/index. asp?PageAction=Custom&ID=64

The XM signal uses 12.5 MHz of the S band: 2332.5 to 2345.0 MHz.
Sirius broadcasts using 12.5 MHz of the S band between 2320 and 2332.5 MHz.

These are likely close enough to use the same antenna for both services, but the antenna my have a passive high or low pass filter that blocks the competitor's signal for better reception (less interference).

Also note that when you split two RF signals the output to each receiver will be -3.5dB...in other words more than half the power will be lost on each output channel.

In terms of cost and reception it may be to your advantage just to run the second antenna.

Good Luck!

  • Car Antenna Review

The majority of the time that most people are listening to their satellite radio is inside their car. But what gets you the best signal? Antenna placement and location on the car is key but is there an antenna that will get you better reception? Are there pros and cons of using one antenna over another? In this posting I will review each car antenna here at TSS Radio as well as include the truck antennas.

The Sirius Mobile Antenna Dot Micro is the standard car antenna that comes with all new plug and play radios. It is the replacement antenna Sirius now uses over the older square car antenna. The mobile antenna dot micro is a round magnetic antenna with a 21 ft cable that has a higher gain than previous models. Basically, that means it can get a better reception. Upon testing I found this to be very true. The dot micro works incredibly well even with poor weather conditions or a bit of cover over it (ie: trees, overhang, etc). The only disadvantage to this antenna is that it’s wire is a fragile and not really equipped for strong weather.
