6 meter transceiver

Programming Two Meter and 70cm Transceivers | Quazen

When I got my General Class license in November 2008 I bought an ICOM V82 HT.  With an 82 page manual programming it looked formidable.  There are two things I would tell someone starting today.  1)  Don’t change an option unless you know what it does.  Most factory options on most transceivers provide a working configuration.  2)  Spend some time quick reading the manual to see what you can set, what you can do, etc.  Don’t be concerned at that time about HOW.  Later if you have to do something or if you have a problem you may remember that you saw that somewhere. 

I am a computer geek but I do not use computer software for rig setup.  I am doing emergency communications.  If I need to reprogram a rig I need to be able to do it with the unit controls, I may not have computer access.  I need to know how to do it.  I have the manuals for my HT’s and portables in a bag that is in the car.  I suggest that if you want to keep the manual pristine copy the pages for setting up repeater operation and carry them.
