I have an old scanner from the 80s and i can pick up frequencies but am not sure if i can get to listen to my local police because they use 800 MHz TRS. The site i provided shows what i am talking about. I don't know much about scanners . Any help would be appreciated. I need a frequency but i don't think that my scanner supports the newer system.

The above poster was correct that TRS does mean trunked radio system and if your radio is from the 80s I doubt it will be able to scan this system. Most scanners of that day did not scan frequencies in the 800 mhz range. If it can it most likely can't trunk track. Radio reference is a good site for info on this. Trunk tracking scanners are available at Radio Shack etc. I've never found their sales people very helpful when it came to scanners so be prepared to do the programing yourself. It's not that hard and radioreference.com is usually pretty up to date.
Good luck and hope this helps.

Uniden is coming out with a BC 996t which sould handle it I believe the Uniden 396t can hadle it with a computer upgrade
They are both digital scanners...
I know my bc246t can handle it with computer upgrade
We have a new scanner. It is supposed to pick up everything. It did last week. Our area St Joseph, MO has just converted all to digital. Through this transition we are told new codes will be available. Does anyone in this area have anything that's NOT already been posted on internet? This includes police, fire and etc. Thanks in advance. Scanner is Uniden Bearcat.
The frequencies shouldn't be hard to find. You can even look through the FCC data base on line. No charge.
The bigger question is whether your new scanner is digital capable. You don't say in your question. If it's not, you won't be able to understand the conversation, anyway. They will sound like a bunch of chirps and buzzes.
