what is the best cb antenna for a 4x4 truck?

I really like wilson cb antennas. But I don't know if they would be right putting one on a truck.

Get yourself a cheap one.
Theyre only gonna work as good as the other guys receiver.
No need to spend big bucks on an antenna that aint gonna get thru all the noise on the CB nowadays. I got a 4ft whip on one mirror of my dump truck and a 18inch rubber ducky antenna on my van. They both work equally well.

Whats best location to mount magnetic CB antenna on car?

I just bought a 36 inch tall K30 magnetic base CB antenna that will go on my car. Will the performance be any different if I use it on my trunk compared to my roof? If i have it on my roof it will probably to tall to go thru the drive thru at fast food places.

no a 3 foot antena won't get damaged going through drive thru's. Depending on where you want the antenna wire to go it's usually easier to go through the trunk and down under the seats to where the CB is mounted... all you have to do is make sure that the antenna is higher than your car... inwhich it will be no matter where you put it. Usually right on the top half of the trunk towards the window. Then run the wire inside the trunk and out to the CB... just remember buy a wire that is long enough but not too long... and don't coil up the wire if you have extra... that will cause problems too.... wait... that usually has wire attached already....

How to make a indoor cb antenna?

I need to make an antenna to get the best signal .

I was thinking would a indoor diplole cb antenna
How would you make one of these. They look like a big T

Hello dellman220008;

The antenna you describe (looks like a big T) is called a DIPOLE.

THE GOOD NEWS: They are easy to design, and build, and are inexpensive.

THE BAD NEWS: For use at the CB frequencies, they are necessarily very large.

SIZE MATTERS !
The good old fashioned “Rabbit Ears” (as have been used for TV reception) is one example of a dipole. Unfortunately, for the much lower frequencies of CB, the dipole needs to be about 17 feet. A Dipole antenna will only perform correctly if its dimensions are correct; Such that it becomes “resonant” at its design frequency.

CB radio frequencies center around 27.2 MHz. That is very LOW by todays standards. The lower the frequency, the LONGER the wavelength. The longer the wavelength, the longer the antenna. That’s simply the laws of physics.

There is a commonly used formula to calculate the starting wire length for a ½ wavelength wire antenna:

Length = 468/Freq

Length is in feet, and Freq is in MHz. For CB, solve this as follows: length = 468/27.2 = 17 feet, 2-1/2 inches. So, an antenna of about 17 feet is required.

ANTENNA DESIGN IS COMPLICATED:

Here are some good reference sites where you can learn all about antenna designs. The American Radio Relay League (ARRL) is THE authoritative source for designing antennas.

Here is another informative site:
http://www.signalengineering.com/ultimat e/antenna_basics.html

Wikipedia has a good article on the principles of dipole antennas,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dipole_ante nna

Here is a website which gives specific instruction on building a CB antenna:

ALTERNATIVES TO THE DIPOLE

You may want to consider a “wound stick” antenna: This site contains the technical details, of the “Firestick” antenna, (commercially made) which is five feet tall, and requires 30 inch “ground plane” radials. But this may be more of a homebrew project than you like.

Also, here is some information about building a “loop” antenna, but again, it is easier said than done.

Insofar as there is a good deal of complexity involved, you may want to consider buying a manufactured unit. Sometimes these show up on ebay.

I hope this is helpful to you in your quest for an indoor CB antenna.

Good Luck.

How do I ground a cb antenna onto a vehicle?

I want to know exactly what I need to run a ground wire to in order to ground my cb antenna to my mirror bracket. What part of the antenna, mount, or bracket must have a ground wire?

The bracket itself can be grounded . You will have to run a jumper from bracket to somewhere thru the door onto body ground. The problem with most mirrors are they have a rubber insulator At each screw mount to keep vibration of the mirror assembly to a minimum
Baby huey read my answer more closely the mirror is insulated
he has to run jumper

Is there a way to screw a short CB antenna into your stock radio antenna mount?

I have a car.
I dont listen to the radio, I have it connected to my Ipod.
So I was wondering if there was a short (12"-25") cb antenna that could screw into the stock antenna mount.

Can I just take the stock radio antenna out and screw in the CB antenna?

Radio Shack use to sell a combination CB/FM antenna. Check there or EBAY.
