Is GMRS/FRS radio legal to use in India?

I am planning to take a walkie talkie (Midland GXT-710VP3 26-Mile GMRS/FRS 2-Way Radio) to India. But, am wondering if it is legal to use there without any license or prior approval.

Not likely. Regulatory agencies within various countries have assigned different frequencies for different uses. The short range of the UHF band, where FRS/GMRS radios operate, has not necessitated international frequency coordination, so other countries use FRS/GMRS frequencies for other uses, such as police, fire, ambulance. When FRS/GMRS became popular in the United States, other countries followed the American lead, but they had to work around their pre-existing frequency allocations. Europe developed PMR446 radios near 446 MHz. Similar Chinese radios are near 409 MHz. Japan has similar radios near 420 MHz. Australia and New Zealand have UHF CB near 477 MHz. So, the likelihood that India would have allocated FRS/GMRS frequencies for similar use is slim. Check with the Indian embassy or an Indian consulate for more details. India is considered to have very bureaucratic radio regulation, so don't be surprised if there is a lot of red tape involved.

Where do I have to go to file for a license for a GMRS radio and what type of license do I need to fill out?!?

The previous two answers are totally useless. Compliance with the GMRS regulations is mandatory... don't listen to the criminal elements.

You are to be congratulated for choosing to license.

First.. go here: http://wireless.fcc.gov/uls/

You will ned to select option the first options "New Users Register" and answer the questions to receive an "FRN". An FRN is like an account number the FCC requires when you do business with them. You'll get your FRN and password

Next. go back to the main ULS menu and select "Online Filing ...login"

From there you would look on the column on the left and select "apply for a new license"

The service code for GMRS is "ZA" I think it asks for that. You are NOT exempt from regulatory fees.

Just answer the questions, and submit the application.

After that, you will need to pay the fees. If you pay via credut card, you can do so online. Otherwise you'll have to download and fill out the payment form, and then mail it.

Your license will not be granted until the payment is completed.

If you pay online, your license could be issued the next morning at the earliest, and you can then legally use your radios with your new call sign as soon as it appears in the FCC database.

You can go here for more info:
http://www.popularwireless.com/forum/ubb threads.php

That website is THE place where all legal GMRS operators go for help and information exchange. You'd be a very welcome addition to the club. They can offer help and equipment choices.
Welcome to GMRS!

What is the general mobile radio[gmrs]?Its from fcc.gov?

I was wanting to just use it to build rc airplanes. So anybody who answer and its helps the most will be voted the best by me.
Plz help

GMRS cannot be used for remote control purposes. It is strictly a voice service. GMRS requires a license. The source list shows the regulations.

For RC planes, you can buy all the necessary transmitters, receivers, solenoids, etc at a hobby store.

GMRS radio frequency to use in USA (two way radios)?

So I'm driving from Canada to the US with another group. As we will have two cars and would like to avoid roaming charges, I figured it would make more sense to use two GMRS radios to keep in contact while we drive.

The question is I am unaware of what the laws are regarding radio frequencies and which ones are save to use vs which ones must be avoided.

Does anyone know what channels/sub channels I can use south of the border as I travel in Albany and New Jersey?

You need a license with the FCC for GMRS.

You can use FRS and CB with no license. The frequencies are the same in The USA and Canada for that. Just use your best judgment for what channel to use.
