How many amps do i need to push a CB car radio that runs at 13.8v. I have searched the internet for this and i cant find it for anything.
a 3amp fuse comes with cb radios that have fuses already installed, even if you have your radio tuned to push 20w its not 20w of power, like your thinking. So the 3amp fuse still works, its what i use on my galaxy dx959 which pushes almost 30watts sideband

Im looking for a car CB radio aerial that goes inside the car, maybe in the boot. Would a normal aerial work if I put it horizontally near the roof-lining? or would the car just act like a faraday cage and not let any CB signals through it?
If someone could post some websites with car CB radio aerials, preferably small ones that would be very helpful.
There is a couple of big problems with this idea.
First off , YES , the metal body acts as a Faraday shield , so the in the trunk idea just wont work.
Secondly , if the CB is for 27Mhz ,a small antenna sized to fit in the trunk of some other internal area is too small to be efficient.
It just wont get out.
And finally , even though CB output powers are not that great , having the antenna inside the car near your head is a REAL bad idea.
The reason -- 'Radiation'.
Be smart , and use a good quality CB antenna - outside the car.

Will either of these setups give me more power and are there any disadvantages or problems with hooking up my CB Radio to a cigarette lighter plug and using it that way?
Actually, it could make a difference in noise interference. It is always advisable to run power directly to the battery, if possible. Also, if your radio is peaked up at all it should perform better with a direct power connection than what a cigarette lighter will be able to provide. While both will provide approx. 12 volts, the amperage will vary between what the cigarette lighter will be able to carry and what you can get directly from the battery, therefore impeding the performance output of the radio.

I have a relatively small sports car.
I want to install a cb radio. Don't ask why, it's my car.
Do they make car-specific cb's? Like not by model, but just for cars rather than trucks?
What is a good, reasonably small antenna to get?
I've heard you can hook up a small amp to your antenna to boost your range.
Is there any truth in that?
Modernize?
To what exactly?
I used to have a CB radio in my car and one at home. I was on CB for a number of years and fitted them to a cars and trucks. There's no difference between ones for cars or trucks however antenna position is different. Antenna tuning is very important. You need a SWR meter to tune them properly. Tuning is very important if you wish to get the best distance and long life out of the transmitter. I found mounting the antenna on a skie rack place across the center of the roof gave the best ground plane. A good ground plane gives you the best distance. Antenna amps are available but could be illegal in your area plus if your antenna isn't tuned correctly can cause TV interference and probably will no matter what. One other thing, short antennas aren't the best, nothing under four foot if you want the best performance. You can mount them anywhere on the car just depends how much performance you want.
I have a Cobra CB Radio on my car with a magnetic antenna mount. But every time that i start the engiene the cb radio start to make wird sounds.
i have a noise suppressor, and it works ... a little, you are never going to cut out all the noise.... have you run the radio power straight to the battery with an inline fuse? that will help a little, and make sure it is grounded well. i am not sure but i would imagine if you got a more expensive suppressor it would work better than a cheaper one...

My question is- has anybody done so with a decent and/or creative mounting job- pics too maybe? I also run an amplifier- up to 400 watts. Shhhhh-...
