Does a CB antenna on a vehicle work better with a magnet mount on the roof, or a mirror mount on the mirror?

If you don't have a camper to interfere with the placement the center of the roof gives the most symmetrical signal and the easiest match.

I want to know exactly what I need to run a ground wire to in order to ground my cb antenna to my mirror bracket. What part of the antenna, mount, or bracket must have a ground wire?

The bracket itself can be grounded . You will have to run a jumper from bracket to somewhere thru the door onto body ground. The problem with most mirrors are they have a rubber insulator At each screw mount to keep vibration of the mirror assembly to a minimum

I dont listen to the radio, I have it connected to my Ipod.
So I was wondering if there was a short (12"-25") cb antenna that could screw into the stock antenna mount.

Can I just take the stock radio antenna out and screw in the CB antenna?

I'm thinking about building a magnet-mount cb antenna. I have built antennas before for amateur radio, so I know a little bit. It's a magnetic-mount loaded whip antenna. I would like to know how to calculate how big to make the coil for the antenna. I want it base-loaded, if that matters.

I took one apart the other day, base loaded, for 30 MHz
The coil was about 1.25 inch diameter
And 1 inch long with #16AWG enameled

If i buy a handheld cb radio and don't want to mount an antenna on my roof, can I just buy one without a mount and plug it straight into the BNC connector?

It sounds like you want to connect a base antenna directly to your handheld CB. You can, but it won't operate very well unless you buy an antenna that doesn't require a ground plane. Most antennas require a ground plane, a large, flat piece of metal for it to sit in the middle of so the power match and transmit pattern are correct. Just putting a base antenna on your handheld will be awkward and won't operate very effectively.
