cb base radio

Hello
I am getting a cb radio for my house and I don't have too much experience with this stuff so I want a simple easy to set up (and not too big) Cb base antenna. I would rather not get a big huge one thats a pain to ajust. I would rather get a easy to use antenna that I can take down easily. What would you recomend?

I want to know if I can use a rubber ducky antenna that is meant to be used on a hand held CB radio, on a base station CB for small range communications.

Radio shack used to sell. I do not know if they still do, a "back of set" CB antenna. I actually used one and it worked well for a mile or so.

The antenna (rubber duck) will work for extremely short ranges, but you need one made for CB bands.

You may wish to consider FRS, or eXRS for your communications, as they are handheld and use FM rather than noisy AM for communications. (provided you live in the USA) Europe uses FM for CB also.

I've heard of Cb linear amps that boost power but I really know nothing of how they operate. Are they just plug and go or are they complicated to use? I'm thinking of buying an old tube type amp but I might just be wasting my money...Anybody??

If you have no knowledge of radio frequency emissions, honestly... for your safety it is best to leave that subject alone. CB amplifiers are illegal for a reason. CBers require no training. If you do not know what you are doing, stay away.

Yes. Growing up we had a base radio with sideband and everything. My parents used to drag us kids to those "Coffee Breaks" they used to go to where a bunch of CBers would get together and shoot the bull. My handle was Snowbird. I also had a mobile CB. Later I changed my name to Wild child. We all used to put our handles and priority station on the back windows of our cars. So, mine read "Wild child................19". If you remember, 19 was the trucker's channel. Cb radio back then was so different than it is now. Today, there is no one monitoring it like there used to be and it is full of filth. Back then you could trust just about anyone who had a CB. It was like one big happy family. If you broke down, just hop on the CB and you'd get a dozen hits from fellow CBers willing to come to your aid. What an awesome memory. Thank you.

I still have my CB. But it is now tucked away with the rest of the memorabilia.

It only came with a power cable that goes into a car radio and I do not have a car. Is there an adapter that can be used to plug it into a socket at my house? I would like names/links please!

You just need a good solid 12v power supply. You can find them on ebay like these
