cb mounts

Used to have a Cobra CB radio with a slide in bracket for easy release (so it don't get stolen), and the Moonwalker whip antenna was a twist & lock release. Haven't been able to find anyone who ever heard of such things. Makes me feel old!

I want to mount dual "Firestix" or another type of fiberglass cb antennas on the mirros of my suv. Is there a mount for SUV mirrors though? And where do I find them?

i use to have mirror mounts on a 74 ford truck once, but i have a k-40 now on the trunk of my car. radio shack should be able to set you right up with some mirror mounts.

I am looking to get a cb antenna but i have an suv so the big long ones on the back are hard to mount and dont always look good. So i figured the easiest way to put it on was with a window mount cb antenna. Are these good? I have heard bad things about them but are they really that bad? any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

1st off, window mount antenna are good for one thing, about 200foot from your car.. and throwing off a cliff, they have no range or reception except for about 200 foot. You won't be able to talk to anyone except the driver in front or behind you.

2nd, If you are just going to mount an antenna for driving down the road on the highway, then your best antenna are the K-40 or the Wilson Magnet Mounts. They're good for around town and about 2-5 miles down the road(and with the right set up even farther).

3rd, if you want to permanently mount an antenna, the go with a good bumper mount(Firesticks or the like), with proper tuning and set-up these will go out hundreds of miles with good reception and range.

The paint under my cb antenna always turns cloudy. How do i prevent this?

You might look into an extremely hard protective polish for your car. The high-tech coatings, like those used on aircraft, would be be best. It will probably cost you a few dollars in the beginning, but will protect your investment for years.

I'm thinking about building a magnet-mount cb antenna. I have built antennas before for amateur radio, so I know a little bit. It's a magnetic-mount loaded whip antenna. I would like to know how to calculate how big to make the coil for the antenna. I want it base-loaded, if that matters.

I took one apart the other day, base loaded, for 30 MHz
The coil was about 1.25 inch diameter
And 1 inch long with #16AWG enameled
