I plan on buying a CB radio. What all equipment do I need and what are some good brands?
Heathkit Catalog 1967 - 109

I have heard Uniden is good and a 40 channel radio is all anybody really needs. What size antennae should I go with and what else goes along with it?

Let's see: sw meter to measure signal when placing antenna on vehicle...antron antenna and poles or a way to get it in the air...a good flexable antenna for roof of car and cb in car...that should do it!

You don't indicate where "local" is but CB equipment is available at most truck stops. If you have a radio, get on ch 19 and ask about a radio shop in your area. My guess there is one within 50 miles of you.

CB Radio beginner equipment?
Heathkit Catalog 1967 - 106

I want to get a CB radio for my truck, but don't know where to start. I want to get one that's cheap, yet functional. I don't really know what to do about an antenna though.. Any ideas?

Go and buy one, if you have a truck stop close to you they sell lots of them there or look on the internet.

Cobra is a good starter radio, reasonably priced and work well. They come with everything you need to hook it up apart from the coax cable for the antenna and the antenna itself.

Lots of different antennas available, magnetic mounts ( put a piece of cloth under them to protect the paint ) are good if you don't want to mount it on your mirrors or don't have anything to bolt the regular antennas too.

Look into Wilson antennas, they are a good antenna to start with. Read the instructions when it's installed and match the antenna to the radio, this is easy to do but may take a little time to get it right. Don't key up the mic until the antenna is attached as this can damage the radio.

For more info and tips or equipment look at Clay's radio shop, he's been around for years and he's the only one I would ever let touch my radio, if you find you need more power then you can look into amps or getting the radio turned up to get more power out of it. This is illegal but every one does it, a factory radio puts out about 4 watts, I'm running 600 watts myself thanks to Clay.

There are a lot of radio shops around and also a lot of butchers that don't know what they are doing with them.

Can someone tell me what equipment i need for a cb radio?
Heathkit Catalog 1967 - 108

I need to know what kind of antenna to use and what the best mount is for it....also i need to know if i should use the hard wire installment or use the cigarette lighter adapter...
By the way i am installing on a Chevrolet pickup. I am only using it for small usage.

Ok, well their are SO MANY factors, every vehicle differs, but i know a good standard, that a few of my chevy driving buddies use. a good radio, depends on weather or not you want the standard 40 channel or a SSB radio. what ever... get a uniden, they are good and cheap, if you want a GOOD radio get a nice galaxy DX949. anyway. you can get what ever radio you want. The real thing that plays the factor is the antenna.

while you can do MANY different things with MANY different antennas a good antenna Easy to hook up, easy to mount, no holes, or anything... Get a Magnet Mount Wilson 1000, 2000, or 5000, they are very nice antennas. They let you hear well, and talk well. they arent too long, but they are long enough. They are a great antenna. now the setup i just told you isnt even CLOSE to my current one, because once again, every situation differs, and my favorite isnt the same as what will work. unlike what others are goin to tell you.

What do you need to operate a CB radio in your house?
Turner 254

I want to buy a CB radio for inside my house. What equipment do I need? Do I need an antenna, or is there a CB i can buy that has an antenna built into the base?

You can get either kind, but an external antenna will determine your broadcast range. If the antenna is going to be over a certain height you have to notify the FAA. I should know this but I don't, so I'm guessing you don't need an FCC license for CB, but ham radio operators DO need to be licensed. The current fine for unauthorized use of the bandwidths regulated by the FCC is $7,500.
