CB Radio installation?
Installed

I am installing cb in a ford van. 1998.
Where is the best place to connect hot wire, and ground for the least interference from engine.
When engine is off<<<reception is wonderful. When ignition switch is turned on<<reception is wonderful....When engine is started<<<< it is a bad nightmare....Antenna is good, and tuned......Any suggestions........Thanks much!

You first must determine what sort of noise it is.
If its a whine that speeds up and down with engine speed , then you need to suppress the alternator.
If its a clicky staticky noise that changes with engine speed then suppress the ignition system.
If its a continual buzz then look for electric fuel pumps etc.
A filer on the + power wire may reduce some noise on the cable but wont do anything for received noise.
EFI computers can also cause noise and they are a lot harder to fix.
Keep the radio away from the computer if its fitted.
Double check all grounds from the transceiver and antenna.
Your local car electrical repair shop should be able to help you with parts required to suppress noise.

CB Radio, Car installation
Driver's Perspective

Hey people

I'm wanting to instll a Cb radio in my car myself, but don't know how to do it.

I know that the red goes to the battery and the black gets grounded. but my its a car, not a 4wd so i don't know where to start.

I have all the equipment.

Any help

Thanks in advance

a 4x4 has nothing to do w ith installation of a CB radio. You do know how to install it, Run The Red wire to the battery. Make sure you put a 4amp inline fuse between the radio and the battery. (an inline fuse can be bought at any auto parts store) or your radio may have one in the red line anyway) Make sure you ground it anywhere you KNOW their is good ground, if you arnt sure run it along side the red wire under the hood and connect it to some bolt there. or if you have to to the negative terminal on the battery

you probably dont have much space in a car.... if you have a blank faceplate in your center console open it up and put it in there.

other places to mount it could be ontop of the dashboard. or if you can get it under then go ahead, some people put it to the right side of the passengers leg room, which rarely gets in the way of the passengers leg room. if you want more instruction about your specific car, let me know you want to get intouch with me, show me a couple pics and i can show you some pics of similar cars ive installed radios in, or just tell you where to put it that wont get in the way.

Actually thinking about it, in a car a good install is one of those all in the mic radios, all you need is room for the mic, it runs to a box which you can install under the dash way out of sight or under the seat (its small) you run the antenna wire to that and the red and black power/ground wires come out of that. same way a regular cb does. but you ONLY need to ever touch the mic, a big space saver.
