The only CB radios that DON'T need an an external antenna are walkie talkies.
If however you have a car radio or a base station set you definitely DO need an external antenna.

I'm a security guard and we use two-way radios for communication but I'm going to be getting a CB radio and was wondering if it's possible to use it to talk to a two way radio. Like would it be the same frequency or the same channel as on the two way? Thanks.
Definitely not. CB channels are between 26.965 MHz (channel 1) and 27.405 MHz (channel 40). The majority of two-way communication radios use frequencies between 460 MHz and 470 MHz.

Okay, I don't want to go through a bunch of extra wiring steps to get my cb radio wired into the cars supplied dc power. So can I buy some sort of adapter that lets me plug it into a cigarette lighter outlet?

I want to buy a cb radio from America but I am unsure about the frequencies. I live in Ireland.Will an american cb radio work?
No.
US and European CB frequencies are different. Additionally, in Europe CB uses FM, where in the US, we still use AM.
Under no circumstances will a USA CB be allowed in Ireland.
We have a 2003 Nissan Pathfinder and want to install a CB radio with the big antenna. Where would be the best place to install it without compromising too much space??

Cobra would be the best. Unless you pay a little more for a Uniden. The less expensive ones will not impress you too much.
All come with an under the dash mount. Does little damage to the dash and what it does is done to the underside where it it less noticeable.
A good antenna? Wlison - Lil Will or the 1000 if you want performance is by far the best. It is a magnet mount for on the rooftop. A little sheet of saran wrap under the magnet will help prevent scratches.
The combination of the two will give years of performance.

Fluid Voice: CB Radio for the Web 3.0 Era
During my recent trip to MIT I met with Andrew Lippman , an Associate Director at the MIT Media Lab and a Senior Research Scientist. Lippman heads up the Lab's Viral Communications program , which "examines scalable, real-time networks whose capacity increases with the number of members." Among other things, we discussed an interesting new product his students are working on called Fluid Voice. In a way it works similar to how CB radio did for truck drivers in the 1970s - providing a mobile group communication system.
First a little background. Lippman explained that his Viral Communications group aims to "symmetricize media" - in other words, balance it. He used an analogy of the radio system. The power to broadcast over the radio is still tightly controlled, spectrum is limited. So in that sense it is asymmetrical, unbalanced. The MIT Viral Communications group aims to re-think the way media works. Lippman and his group is asking: does radio have to be like this?
