I just installed an CB/EMERGENCY RADIO/Weather radio it is 12 watts. What are those really powerful illegal bo

WHAT ARE THOSE ILLEGAL POWER BOOSTERS WATTAGE (RANGE FROM TO?)?

When I installed it I turned it on and heard so many people on ch. 19 with these boosters where they talk with extreme echo like effect. It's terrible they argue and scream back and forth.

Besides 9 and 19 are there any main stream channels?

Channels 6 and 11 are big long range skip channels... So are the upper 30's. Channel 14 is usually considered a "family" channel, usually used by base stations and mobile radios in what seems to be every town!

Channel 19 is a good channel to listen to when you are nowhere near a truckstop! As to linear amplifiers, I've personally had them from 25-10,000 watts. There are custom linear builder who are building units that produce more than 100,000 watts and are considered competition boxes. Just remember this simple thing: Radio performance is DIRECTLY related to antennae quality, performance, and location. In other words, that 12 watt radio with a good antennae, mounted correctly, will perform BETTER than a big, powerful radio with a sub-par antennae mounted in a less than ideal location.

looking for a good incar cb radio system with weather and great range?

Any suggestions for a good setup that would be hard wired into my van and give great range and reception

Iplan on installing one into my wifes car too sow e can chat and stuff while driving around together on long drives

Never owned anything like this before so not sure what would be best for buying, would like it to also have the weather channel stuff and look nice too

Any advice welcome, prefereably i would like to buy from a store rather than online, im in south east michian

You would be better off with one of those phones that have the walky talky thing in them, they work off the cell towers and you can talk across the country ,,, I saw a guy in Toronto talking to his foreman on the job in British Columbia ,,..Because as a truck driver ,, on a good day I could talk to a base station for about 10 miles to a car maybe 4 -5 miles unless you use sideband radio which doubles your range but you have to learn how to use and understand because they are not real clear. I used to run all over Michigan from Taylor to Kalamazoo , Battlecreek Cadilac Muskeegan, up to Gaylord and back.

What is the trucker channel on a CB radio?

I have a CB radio, but not really anyone else to talk to, and I was wondering weather the trucker channel has changed from channel 19 to anything else.

Also, whenever i try to talk on the radio, my CB, keeps turning off for some reason, it doesn't do it as much when I am driving, so it makes me think that it is not getting enough voltage. Am i right in thinking this, or is it just the CB?

Check the power connections. Make sure there is good clean and secure metal to metal contact. The supply voltage to the CB will drop slightly when you transmit because it draws much more current from your battery than when receiving. A bad connection will cause the voltage to drop even further. Your battery will charge when you are driving so the voltage will be a little higher than when you are stationary with the engine turned off.

There may be a few local variations but channel 19 is still used as the truckers channel.

CB Radio Emergency Action Termination?

In reading the different alerts heard on weather alert band on my cb radio, I see EAT (Emergency Action Termination), but I don't see what it means. Can anyone tell me what it means?

Read this. It's much too complicated to answer here.

TX/RX on CB Radio?

There's a little green light on my CB Radio above the Weather Alert light and it's constantly on. What is it or what does it mean?

Tx is transmit
Rx is recieve

Depending on the model, it could be to tell you that you are in the mode to transmit and recieve a signal. Another mode would be a PA so you could connect a loud speaker to the CB and amplify your voice over the speaker.
