compact cb radio

preferably a speaker for under $100

Ebay, Look for PA Horn generally their are 12w or 15w ones on there. but dont think its going to be LOUD, i have a powered speaker with a pa system in my truck, my speaker pushes 80w of power, but its not as loud as id like it to be. while driving next to someone at 60 they will only hear me if their windows are open.

I am looking to purchase a new cb radio, and I wanted to see what people thought was a good one to buy. The one I have now is a cobra19 DX IV Compact CB Radio, and it ok. I am looking for something with real power though. The one I have now I can hear drivers on the road but close enough in range to talk with them. So, mostly I just listen. Or, is there a way to increase the range in the the cb I have now, so that I can communicate with people on the road. My cousin thinks we just need to increase the signal strength some how, except we don't know much about what we are doing. We have just started out with cb radios. Can we work with what we have, or should I buy a new cb radio. If anyone can provide any help to the problem, it would be appreciated. We have only talked with a few drivers so far, and they were real close to us. Thanks in advance for any help.

What you have will work fine. You have a decent model of radio. Read on.

There is no way to legally increase power.

However, the problem you are describing is a receive issue which can only be corrected one way. This will also affect transmit range.

Your antenna.

The better your antenna, the better your range. The 4 watt legal limit on transmit power is plenty, as long as you have a quality antenna.

Cheap $19 antennas won't do it. Research antennas online and make a good purchase. Wilson is a good CB antenna maker.

Remember, an antenna is a piece of communications equipment. If you make it short and "cutesy", then it will not do the job.

That model radio will come with a standard CB type two wire power cord.
It is recommended that you run wires directly from the battery terminals to the radio and not use any accessory or lighter socket for the power.
The reason for this is those supplies may not be able to provide enough amperage for correct transmitter performance.
