I work security and it is my job for when bad weather is comming to monitor and keep the client up-to-the-minute with the weather if emergency weather is comming. I have signed up for the Emergency weather SMS from theweathernetwork.com but that only gives me a warning. I need the local Radio station to listen to in case of emergency weather. Does anyone know where to find or know the St. Catharines/Niagara Emergency Weather radio station?
Thanks in advance.

You will need a weather radio. Tone alert type with battery backup is best.
The St. Catharine area is covered by station VAD 320 on 162.475 MHz. I believe the transmitter is located in Thorold.

All of a sudden I lost the audio on tv station and instead am now getting the noaa (radio signal for weather) signal. I have regular cable, not digital, and this just started.
The cable company will send someone out to look at it , but I was wondering if anyone else ever had this happen. It is only happening on one tv, not the other one, and I asked my neighbors and they don't have a ny problems. It is channel 17 (where I am) and I also lost the audio completely on channel 11 (where I am).
So, anyone else out there had their tv's wierd out in a similair way that could explain how this happened. Thanks!!
Thanks so much, I had accidentally pressed the sap button on the remote. It is all fixed now- thanks!!! As soon as it will let me I will choose you as best answer drago :)
check the SAP setting. Secondary Audio Program...could get Spanish in alot of areas but some stations broadcast weather/boating info

You can buy a NOAA weather radio many places, including Walmart, Best Buy, Target, Meijer. I just saw one at Meijer (like Walmart ) for $12.97 for a portable unit, a plug in one might be $30-$40. We have 2, one in our bedroom (plug in w/battery back up) and one walkie talkie style unit we take with us, like in car, basement, if severe weather is expected.

I've been looking at midland, first alert, radio shack and others and can't seem to make my mind up, wanted to survey folks who are more familiar with the issue than I am.
As to the Midland WX 100, I've heard that it's only partially SAME capable due to not being able to determine what types of warnings / watches you want to be alerted of?
First consider a NOAA Weather Radio that has Specific Area Message Encoding (SAME). This will allow you to select the counties that you want to hear weather watches/warnings for. Ones that do not have SAME will activate for any watch/warning in the local NWS warning area.
I have found the the Midland WR-100 is an excellent radio. I've recommended it to several individuals and businesses. You can purchase the radio at Wal-Mart for around $30. I'm sure there are other stores you can purchase the radio as well.
The WR-100 has SAME technology. The codes can be found by going to: http://www.nws.noaa.gov/nwr/nwrsame.htm
I cant find one that gets NOAA Alerts and is also a shortwave radio. Why?
NOAA All Hazard Radio, the new name for NOAA Weather Radio, is designed for local area warnings only. Therefore, a shortwave frequency is not used.
There are two main reasons for this:
1. Warnings are best handled by the local NOAA National Weather Service office which is responsible for most local warnings, advisories, and forecast. This lower power broadcast will make it less likely to interfere with another distanced NOAA weather radio station that is broadcasting at the same frequency for their local area.
2. When a warning is issued through the radio, a special code is sent out to activate only the area that matches this frequency code. Because there are a limited combination of codes it can use and a limited distance this code can be heard, the low power NOAA broacast same code can be reused again.
Since a shortwave radio broadcast frequency can be heard well passed the distance of the local office area of responsibility. The short wave radio frequency range is not really suited for this kind of broadcast needs.
