How does the FCC track people who use frequencies w/o a license?

What if the signal is not constant and it is only used from time to time? Would they be able to detect that?
What is triangulation?

The FCC continually monitors frequencies and if it finds one is being used with out proper authorization it uses a plethora of satellites, airplanes, and land vehicles along with stationary antenna to triangulate on the offending signal. Remember, they are the Federal Government and thus have nearly limitless resources available to them.

Does anyone know where to find the new/current scanner frequencies in Colorado after the FCC 800mhz rebanding?

I'm looking for the latest up-to-date Digital Trunking Radio System (DTRS) frequency list for Colorado. I'm having trouble finding current frequencies for Fremont County, Colorado.

** I've tried RadioReference.com. They don't list Fremont county in their trunking freq. list, and Google only pulls up outdated/old freq. lists.

Just thought I'd ask :)

Many areas of the state are on the states system:

How do you get approval from the FCC for unblocked scanners?

on most scanners it says cell blcked meaning you cant dip down in to the cell frequencies. it says you need fcc aprroval to buy unblock ones. how do i get approved

Blocking cell phone numbers is done for a reason. To keep nosy people from you from listening in on them. The FCC won't give a private citizen permission to go to those freqs.with a scanner. If you find a way to do it you run the risk of heavy fines, jail time or both.

Analog Television is on it's way out, what will replace those frequencies?

I've been hearing the FCC is holding bidding for the frequencies that old-style analog television uses, but I haven't been hearing which bidder is winning. Wide range wireless internet? More frequeicnes for cell phones? Something else altogether? What's the scoop?

The cell phone companies seem to be the ones most interested in them. But since it's an open auction they could be sold for some other use. Last I heard, the bidding wasn't at active as the FCC had hoped it would be.
